            Goldfrapp = Totally shit

Long Blondes on CD = harmless fun girly indie rock.

Long Blondes live = A fucking joke!

Goldfrapp = dull live and on record

Long Blondes on record = pretty good

Long Blondes live = top entertainment

              • Heh,

I quite enjoyed Long Blondes when they supported Arcade Fire in Sheffield. I put it to you, Marco, that you are wrong! ;-D

                • LOL @ Browno

I saw the LOng Blondes at the cooperage about 5 months ago. The drummer seemed competent, as did the male guitarist. The female lead has a sweet voice and oozes sex appeal.

                  However...

The female guitarist was a fucking liability. She dropped chords and constantly looked like she didn't know what the fuck she was doing. She seemed more bothered about her hair keeping in place. And the female bassist just seemed like a bleeding retard only capable of the most simple of basslines.

Way too much style over substance.

If i'd been pissed i probably would have danced. I wasn't so i noticed everything. They were shit!

                  • Well, Marco...

That's some pretty strong reasoning. I retract my statement. ;-D I still enjoyed them, though I can see how they wouldn't stand up to too much analysis.

  • My opinion:

I don't really get why Goldfrapp are getting so much criticism on here aside from the obvious "they're popular so I can't like them" shit. I personally thought Felt Mountain was a stunning pop record and the singles from Black Cherry were fantastic, sexy dance songs that everyone seemed to love when I put them in DJ sets etc. I haven't heard the new album but again the singles and image are pretty flawless.

I think the problem is people are comparing them/her to the wrong things. She should be seen as an alternative to Rachel Stevens and Sugababes rather than Portishead and Hanne Huckkelberg. That is, fun and cool rather than clever and musically accomplished.

    • i haven't heard the new album

but if the singles are owt to go on, it's shit. but the last two records were good. they're somewhat flat live, which is a shame given how much they seem to put into their stage show [costumes etc], but they're a good pop band.

i do hope they won't stick with their current formula forever after though. it's running low on fuel now, and i thought the fact that they went from the weird pop-opera mentalism of felt mountain to disco sleaze on their second record set them up as an exciting and reinventive band rather than one who'd find a profitable niche and make themselves at home.
