YES to quasimoto. What about Beauty and the Beat (Edan)? That's my hippity hop album of the year.

I've yet to get that, so that could be a 6th. Is it similar to Primitive Plus?

          • Re: 2005

Not really - he's got slightly more serious (only slightly, mind) and it's much more psychedelic (loads of moog). It's ace.

'The underground is made of velvet , with buttersoft brothers, talk tough on wax but ain’t sell shit..
My mental fabric, too thick for Lenny Kravitz, who imitates Jimi Hendrix in every facet'

            See?

      Qusimoto was great.

There have been loads this year, someone made that top 7 albums of the year thread, I ended up posting about 15. This year has made me love music more than any other year.

      • Re: 2005

It has been good. I'm off to buy animal collective and deerhoof at lunch as well. I didn't much like what I've heard of animal collective so far (which, to be fair, is only a couple of tracks off sung tongs) and I'm mainly buying it on YOUR recommendation Allen.

        You better be right.

animal collective was recommended to me on amazon. what are they like?

          • Re: 2005

amazing in a psyche-folk-crazy-spontanious-melody kind of way.

        • Re: 2005

hehe, it is different to sung tongs. most of the stuff they release sounds nothing like the album before it.

deerhoof is a good'n as well.

            • Re: 2005

its been a good and bad year, as i have discovered some great bands that i didn't know about before, like:

              Test Icicles
              LCD Soundsystem
              Idiot Pilot
              Lightning Bolt
              Saul Williams
              Wives
              Engerica

But, we have lost some great talent:

              Million Dead
              Hot Snakes
              Q and not U
              RFTC
              Hot Water Music (hiatus?)
              Eden Maine (hiatus?)

So, its been mixed, but heres to next year being fucking ace! (bit early i know)

  • Re: 2005

It's been pretty good, lots of competition for places on the end of year list. Top five at the moment is Sufjan, Bright Eyes x2, British Sea Power and Mountain Goats.

      The Ponys - Celebration Castle
      Broken Social Scene - s/t
      New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary
      BRMC - Howl

      probably forgotten a bunch...

  • Re: 2005

I'll add the dios (malos) album to my list as well. Not very innovative, but I can't help but like an album about pot, girls, broken hearts and sounding like Neil Young and the Beach Boys
