Hope of the States

sean [Edit] [Delete] 9 replies 17:16, 11 October '05
Will now be djing at 11pm at teh DiS Party at the Barfly on Friday.
They're taking a break from mixing their new album to come down. Should be fun.
Anyone a massive fan / hater?

One of their singles was pretty good from their last album, so I'm more of a lover than a fighter

The lead singers inability to sing really puts me off them. Some of the music is pretty good though.

I did however see the drummer and the violinist at Highbury corner two Sundays ago.

    I'm indifferent.

They could be much better than they are. They have a good sound, but no songs (in my opinion). Live I thought they were boring but I was horrendously ill anyway and left early. they had too much going on almost, guitars and violins and vocals and keys all fighting eachother to be heard. Just didn't work. Weak vocals too. meh...

Their album was half very good and half very average. I think they have a lot of potential but they need a better singer. Black Dollar Bills is still spectacular though.

      They were good live.

I was really sick, but it suited them in a bizarre way.

They hold the capacity to genuinely excite live, but perhaps not so much on their recorded material. The Black Amnesias, however, is absolutely awesome. Nice work getting them down there.

Way overrated. I listened to their one(?) album exactly once...it had some bright spots but was mostly disappointing. Like they wrote their songs straight from a How To Be Indie For Dummies handbook. Meh.

I recently bought the album because it was a fiver in Fopp. Always wanted to buy it before but due to student nature, i couldn't. I agree, Black Amnesias is an awesome, epic opening to an album.

When is the new album due for release?
