Thoughts on their new song? https://soundcloud.com/local-natives/pastlives
They are going to have to go some to match Hummingbird.
On that note, in my mind one of the best columns ever written on here about that record https://soundcloud.com/local-natives/pastlives
Here is the column http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4147231-silver-dreaming-with-local-natives-hummingbird
Hoping they'll release something in time for EOTR festival. You couldn't move for harmonious, literate indie rock bands at the turn of the century...now Local Natives are almost the lone survivors.
but thought Gorilla Manor was exceptional. This isn't really my cup of tea but hopefully the album will be a return to form. Fantastic live band.
For me it still just sounds like a composite of their influences, whereas Hummingbird was far more cohesive. But there you go.
but I probably still prefer Gorilla Manor, has more 'stand out' moments. Hummingbird seemingly came from a pretty dark place for the most part (Kelcey losing his mum etc.) so I guess it makes sense to be less upbeat and more intense and focussed. they've spent fucking ages recording this one, and did a lot of writing/recording in Thailand by the looks of it, so will be interesting to see which direction the new one goes.
Revisited them recently... fucking hell, Hummingbird is miles better. Mt. Washington might be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
but did today....wow, even better than I remembered. Such an impressive album, barely a note wasted.
New song sound pretty good on first listen too, sounds like another slight change in direction but not losing what's good about them (similar to the one between Gorilla Manor and Hummingbird)
saying it was this decade's Hospice, but seemed a bit too much of a bedwetters post
But seriously, it's a stunning album, probably in my top 5 of 2013 (which was STACKED with great releases)
Only listened to Gorilla Manor a few timrs so far but really enjoying it.
At first I thought they were going to be on the bland side but there's enough interesting stuff going on throughout to hold my attention. On to Hummingbird tonight I think.
I agree with badmanreturns, more songs stood out on Gorilla Manor. Only on first run through of Hummingbird though so may be posting prematurely.. really loving everything about this band.
(apparently first cut of my music from an as yet untitled new album...so no Past Lives?).
Sounds like Air France
best local natives song though? Mt Washington
But it's a sign of a good album (Hummingbird) when my favourite song changed several times (Breakers, Wooly Mammoth, You & I, Black Balloons).
This is great
Terrible album art
ever like album/band names?
i think both the name and artwork are pretty decent. inoffensive at worst.
But it's a step below Hummingbird
Quite like this on first listen
Think it's becoming clear what this will sound like. At least I'm looking forward to it, unlike the new Wild Beasts record.
