Not been. Going to see Chk Chk Chk tomorrow. What's it like? Bar, stage, layout etc?
downstairs. The venue is probably around the size of The Barfly. There's a bar at the side of the venue area that doesn't do draft beers. It isn't a great venue and the view is bad if you're at the back. I've seen Ex Hex, Lonelady and The Jezebels there. Good gigs but a below average venue for me. The worst venue in London for me is The Scala; Oslo is far better.
much better than OSLO imo
Which was nice after hearing so many bad things. I guess the stage is a bit low, which is probably a pain if you're short, but even then at least there's a bit of raised space to stand.
But I've never understood the Scala hatred. It's much better than XOYO, the Forum or Shepherd's Bush Empire.
...access and sightlines on the ground floor, and I'm pretty tall. Why don't they make the stage a bit higher?
I was standing on the side of level 2 for Ezra Furman last night. Was decent. Once nabbed front row seats on the balcony of level one - felt like I was royalty.
Bar downstairs is better than the bottle bar upstairs. Good range of local hipster beers if that's your thing. Their food is pretty good too downstairs.
Sound quality and sight lines are good. No complaints really.
Having said that I'm tall and have never stood at the back.
I'm 6'2" and thought it was a good venue, but the friend I was with was craning their neck a fair bit.
Venue bar is on the right hand side as you look at the stage, but pro tip is that you can actually take drinks up from the bar downstairs - they have a much better selection.
I've found the best place to stand is right hand side past the bar - there seems to be a natural gap form here.
is come up the stairs at the back of the restaurant bit downstairs, past the toilets - you come out into the venue by the stage and can take advantage of gaps that you can't spot from the back.
fantasic info, cheers!
I like real ale, any nearby pubs you can recommend?
Just up the road from Oslo, maybe a five minute walk if that.
...for gigs at Oslo or St John's. Fantastic range of beer. Also good for pizza. Nice staff too.
the venue and does real ales too.
Very difficult to get through to the toilets if it's busy...
drinks offensively expensive
