I suddenly feel old.
HEY NOW NOW
You bloody kiwis and your Crowded House...
worried its going to be shite
Now objectively, obviously it was actually a bit shite. That said, treat it as a bit of a goth pantomime and there's plenty of fun to be had.
Sisters Of Mercy gig memories - I saw them support Depeche Mode at Crystal Palace Arena in 1993. They did not look comfortable performing outside and during the day. Andrew Eldritch referred to Depeche Mode as a 'puppet show'.
Amazing to think that in the early 90s they were big enough to have top 10 hits/play Wembley Arena/headline Reading. Apparently there's a whole album of new stuff written but it's never going to see the light of day as Eldritch's starting point for going back into the studio is...ONE MILLION POUNDS.
Great album. Killed Goth stone dead, as there was nowhere else to go after the sheer ridiculousness of Dominion and Lucretia My Reflection.
First, Last and Always = ridiculous but still superb
Floodland = ridiculous but entertaining
Vision Thing = ridiculous and embarrassing
and the fact that Eldritch appears to take himself 100% seriously (unlike similarly ridiculous bands - Queen or Muse, for example) that makes them so entertaining. No point being ridiculous if you're in on the joke.
Is in sisters of mercy.
who are amazing. And he's the loveliest man alive, which is always a bonus.
(declaration of interest: I run their website, for the above stated reasons)
I fell asleep listening to the vinyl of First and Last and Always using headphones. Unfortunately it skipped during Some Kind of Stranger, and continued to skip all night. It now has a massive BRAAAP sound where the vinyl was etched away on that fateful night. I don't know how I slept through it. Well goth.
cover of Lucretia (My Reflection)?
Miss the bassline though
Why are SoM fans so damn fat?!
