Given that he clearly cared enough about the band to give it a proper "go out on a high" ending only a few years back, it'd just seem odd to reform for live shows at all, let alone this soon.
Bad in, well, pretty much every other conceivable way.
but it's hard for me to make objections about my favourite band reforming
(furious denials going on on Twitter from DFA types btw)
Agree with pretty much all of the above, they made such a big deal of the finale. Plus, I'm sure James Murphy would be aware of the ridiculous prices people paid for scalped tickets and how shit it would be if they paid all that money to travel half way around the world for the FINAL show, only to realise 5 years later that it wasn't the last show after all.
I've got my ticket booked for Primavera next year, if they play, I'll definitely be seeing them and enjoy every minute of it, but, I'd rather they didn't, they've had a great career, 3 incredible albums, called it quits at their peak and I was lucky to see them 4 times, I'm happy with that.
Never thought I'd see the day when a typical tabloid "Oasis/Smiths are DEFINITELY reuniting for Glastonbury next year" was turned to LCD Soundsystem.
there are many reasons to not reunite, particularly not so soon, but any sense of duty to the people that went to those shows isn't really one of them.
Where they played exactly the same set?
The only "one-off" thing about it was that it was the last show.
they played those shows to make the situation better not worse. i didn't see the warm up shows, but i imagine they weren't as extravagant anyway.
regardless, they'll likely never play as extensive sets again, regardless of whether they actually play, and anyone who paid for the added bonus of boasting about seeing their last concert is an idiot anyway.
they made a film. If they reunite it would lose all meaning. Maybe in 10 years I could understand but some bands take longer between albums since LCD Soundsystem have been disbanded.
It seems a little embarrassing to say the least.
That said I would be happy to see them back.
everyone always does.
