pretty pleasant summer album.
Shitty peasant bummer analbum.
What a shame
It's just feels so passion-less, and that comes out of these vague songs about nothing or - at best - pseudo-deep sketches of one night stands. No playfulness, or crassness or depth to speak of and that just feels like death in their scene.
When you look at their contemporaries, Bloc Party are occasionally laughable but always sincere. And whatever Yannis has to say about Alex Turner's quiff, at least he spends more time on his lyrics than his hair-do...
Gave them my annual 'try' to find anything to hang onto in their music. Failed once more but I know I'll try again because they tip me neither way, which seems weaker than making me hate them somehow.
I keep, keep trying to get into them but the lyrics sound like they're only there to fill space rather than actually say anything.
Chiseled, media-savvy, young Tories make pointless music for the radio 1 daytime playlist.
horrific band. always have been.
TLF is fantastic.
Haven't heard this yet but looking forward to doing so.
Antidotes passed me by, TLF was really interesting in parts. This is slightly disappointing thus far. Title track has grown on me, as has a handful of others, but on the whole it hasn't grabbed me yet. Great last track, but musically a lot seems pretty interchangeable and lyrically there seems to be quite a lot of lazy rhyming going on.
feels like they keep blunting what made them special. kinda like how Wild Beasts did it, but they at least managed to keep a semblence of themselves. this has reduced what made TLF so ace to a sprinkling, and turned up what made HF a little tiresome to 11. Wierd.
Not sold on album four at all so far. Which makes them the new Kings of Leon, I believe!
It's funny, there's a few bands that have done the thing of appearing as quite "mysterious" initially, and the more they reveal of themselves the more it turns out they weren't quite as "artful" as you thought. There's some sixth form poetry going on in the lyrics...
Anyway, I parted with a tenner for it last Friday so I had better try another spin I guess.
they have very quickly run out of ideas.
To be honest though, none of their albums have been more than 6/10 affairs overall. They're definitely a singles band.
but they've definitely become one of those bands who I will just nod my head to if they come on in someone's car. TLF seemed like a genuinely exciting record when it came out; I don't know if that's 'cause life seemed generally more exciting at that point, though.
They did. In my estimation.
This is a pretty dull album, which is a shame as I loved the first three. But nothing stands out here, so it all just feels weirdly flat.
really gutted as I love foals and but when I was nonplussed about the three singles I was worried.
Just nothing which made them stand out, the drumming is so tame, vocals are nothing exceptional and just sounds like them churning out an MOR pop rock album
Snake Oil sounds like a shit Kasabian track ffs
