Now available to stream. Well?
kendrick taking swipes at drake though? seems he should be above that now.
Tracklist looks OK but I don't have that high hopes
it seems to have been getting decent reviews, although i can't imagine any of them weren't rushed.
I'm presuming it will be available on a non-Apple format at some point?
Pissed cos the mix sounds like shhhhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. wtf dre.
Is it just because it's streaming that it sounds so gash? Hope the actual release sounds better.
It's just been mastered way too harshly. I downloaded the flac and it's the same.
But yeah it's pretty good
I gots to agree with two points. First, it's way better than it has any right to be. A very decent 2015 hip hop album when the best I expected was maybe an enjoyable throwback.
Second, yeah, the mixing is a bit shite. It's not that big on the standouts or bangers, so you'd feel it would benefit from the clarity and depth of sound that TPAB or a DJ Quik record has. As it is, it's not really a headphones listen or a trunk rattler.
Dre sounds great though. Gotta give it up for his vocals and flows (and ghostwriters). He's been tired as fuck for years, but he's on point on these beats. In contrast, he has to flip the beat on Medicine Man to some generic slim shady shit so Eminem can trot out the same old style. It's merciful that he's only on one track. Kendrick, naturally, is great, and should have been used more if anything.
Detox sounded fucking appalling. To have this in its place is no bad thing.
Call me petty.
It doesn't sound like a Dr Dre album. It could have been made by anyone (and yeah, I realise that it probably was).
Was struggling to imagine what a Dre album might sound like in 2015. The closest I guessed was something like Wesley's Theory, but assumed it was more likely to sound like a crap retool of 2001 like most of what he's done in the last 16 years. Probably for the best that it doesn't completely sound like Dre. Record itself has been growing on me (Snoop's verse on One Shot Kill :O :D) but it could really use some anthems/bangers to keep the pace up.
if it sounded like dre it would probably sound like detox, and nobody wants that
and fair play to him to realize that album was going to stink and shelving it.
but it sounds a bit cobbled together. I get Dre's role nowadays, and that's cool and I guess that's why he's called it 'a soundtrack' and is able to justify the fact that there doesn't seem to be a style that holds it all together, like The Chronic had.
Yeah, definitely needed some bangers. And there's too much singing on it. I really can't see myself listening to the whole thing again.
That don't really amount to a hook or anything. Beats and rhymes pretty good to great in general though
A lot of love for Genocide, All in a Day's Work, Talk about it, Deep Water, and Animals. In fact the opening 5 tracks and that run is just brilliant.
Mastering is dodgy but I'll be spinning it a lot, but skipping Medicine Man and Loose Cannons
