I love 'Coffee' and 'Simplethings' especially, obviously heavily indebted to the little purple one. Going to see him live soon as well... Very excited.
Initially loved it then cooled off and now starting to really love it. lot more depth than I thought. Like a sexier, Prince-ier Frank Ocean.
Kaleidoscope Dream was a more straightforward pop record, and was probably a marginally better album for me just on the strength of the songs. Wildheart pushes the boat out a bit more sonically, and I dig it for that, but I don't love as many tracks. Also, it might just be me, but while I love the way he approaches sex, but I don't always find it that sexy. Coffee? Hell yeah. The Valley? Great song, but that nursery rhyme tits, clit, sit thing... Makes me cringe in a way R&Bs great seducers don't generally haha.
I think he's still to find a balance between getting his Prince on and writing really great songs. Wildheart suggests he's got a real R&B masterpiece in him, but isn't quite it.
think its my least favourite of his albums
Though I like The Valley (I reckon he's riffing on Khia..)
I also find it odd that he's so ferociously put himself up as a 'better' Frank Ocean. Some of Wildheart's best moments sound a lot like Frank Ocean... Coffee, What's Normal Anyway, leaves...
