New album etc
Where should one start with Deafheaven?
and weakling's album at the same time
It's pretty much the only black metal album you'll ever need
it's out in October which isn't even that far away
Proper made me chuckle. Looking forward to the album though.
but it might partially be 'cause the mix/stream is a bit muddy. There's some really cool drumming going (little cymbal shuffles etc.) but the sort of 'euphoric' guitar breaks seem to have slid from the shoegaze of Sunbather to being a bit cock-rocky, and there's something off about the vocals.
the Kiss Me middle section only really works when reprised later though.
it's not bad though
which sound as if they're done by entirely different bands.
There's enough atonal screaming bollocks in there to please Deafheaven fans.
i thought this! :DDDD
are there any decent pubs nearby? haven't been there in about 5 years
Wasn't in the mood pre-gig, what with it being a horrid wet Monday night, but they blew away my mood with great effect.
where do I go next with black metal?
minus the Kiss Me part, but still...
surprised how many are saying this album is much more metal than Sunbather. I mean it kind of is, but the shoegaze (by which we all mean Post-Rock, right?) elements are also a bit more apparent too; maybe a bit less mixed and more disparate though.
not quite sure how I feel about it. I like it overall (didn't care for Sunbather), but it comes off as a bit too eager to please.
Played it a lot over the weekend - that riff in the last track <3
I reckon it will probably grow on me, as Sunbather did.
I do think it is more metal - aggressive, choppy, chugga-chugga - than Sunbather. His vocals are a bit more audible as well, more growly than shrieky. I do miss the shriek, that voice was one of my favourite things about Sunbather.
Do you understand any of the lyrics without reading them (or even with reading them)?
I see lots of people going on about the lyrics, yet I don't think I understood a word of any of it.
Not getting mine till November now.
I'm sure taken alone, the black metal bits and the post-rock (often more soft-rock) elements would be pretty average. It's basically easy listening black metal.
But somehow, together it works. The last album was good and this one is better.
Just find it really boring and the wafer thin singing completely pants.
Think it's only popular because it's a bit less heavy and has a good press presence, but ultimately sounds like Thin Lizzy remembered through wire gauze more of the time.
And big victims of trying to cover it all up under oceans of reverb, fuck that.
having gotten a bit more into this sort of music in the past couple of months. It's still terrific.
