This came out in 1990. 25 years ago! Here's 'Birdhouse in your Soul':
Let's hear some love for this album!
Had Birdhouse in your soul as our first dance at our wedding. Really hard work!
Great band, and this is their best LP
the kids show they do is really good.
...and Birdhouse In Your Soul is one of the best songs ever written.
But as for Flood, as an album? I'd say it's their fourth best.
3. Apollo 18
When you've got 19 tracks in 43 minutes, there's bound to be some dips in quality. Luckily, as is always the case with this band, if you don't like one of their songs, you can at least reassure yourself that it'll be over soon. And the next song, if it's no better, will at least sound completely different.
I think the main problem with Flood is that it peaks too early, right at the start. NOTHING can follow Birdhouse. The other three listed are more consistent.
Istanbul Not Constantinople
But love 'Lincoln' more. Ana Ng! They'll Need a Crane!
I built a little empire out of
Some crazy garbage called the
Blood of the exploited
cos I picked it up on CD the other day (along with Cosmic Thing, Out of Time, and Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea - total nostalgia trip...)
I hadn't heard 'Flood' in years, the cassette I used to own having long since been lost. But yes, this is an excellent album. And I'm amazed by how well the lyrics seemed to be burned into my brain. And my son loves them too.
Looks like TMBG are playing for 'free' (well the cost of their new CD) at Rough Trade East on Monday 20 July. Definitely going to go to that, then for a pint in the cat pub round the corner. Perfect. http://www.roughtrade.com/events/2015/7/1424
I live in the US but am in England from July 1 - July 16. Four fucking days! Arrrggghhh!
When he's underwater does he get wet?
Or does the water get him instead?
