I keep reading things like "I'm going to camp near the Pyramid stage."
So can you, like, camp anywhere?
Obvs not RIGHT in front of the stage, but there's no proper single camping area.
Pennard Hill 4 lyf
5 years to be more precise.
woke up on Friday morning and it was like this:
that was the year i was too, shall we say disinterested in leaving to get in my car before the Tuesday evening.
I nearly went home.
my first Glasto too.
Or you were luckily on high enough ground just look down on the death? :(
(we were in the background of that pic up there)
we transported out tent, fully erected, to lower mead
gutter for the poor folks at the bottom
We were on top of a hill thankfully but the screams I woke up to from meighbouring tents was er, not nice.
but I was told at the time that someone had been found drowned in their tent. It might not have been true though.
Glastonbury likes to pride itself with with it's ease of access policy, meaning that yes, you can camp wherever you like. whilst not entirely true, this is somewhat true, the stages and campsites are intermixed throughout the site, thus avoiding the usual segregation of campsite and arena.
you have a (warm) beer to hand at all times
will be performing their solid discography to 100,000 people.
I never arrived much before Thursday afternoon and at that point everywhere near the Pyramid would already be taken.
We always did go to the bit marked on that map as Pennard Hill, although I never knew it had a name.
right at the top, there was a little cut through to the stone circle which was handy. Got a bit pissy towards the end though. Lovely view from up there, I found the campsites oddly quiet, probably as you can just wander to more interesting places.
This was the main thing I liked about Glastonbury - once you are in, that is it. I just wish I had taken far more beer, maybe stashed it in the car and gone back to collect it.
