Compared to the world's population? 99.9%
Compared to DiS? 40%
being rude to someone you think is a troll
how do i write that as a percentage?
Have you heard the shit everyone else listens to? Christ, it's bad.
As is everyone else's to anyone but them
It's going to be hard work though - you probably won't have any time left to post on DiS.
Compared to the world's population? 99.9% more awful
Compared to DiS? 40% more awful
they love absolute horseshit. That makes me feel better. Places like here though, I am probably way too mainstream.
How old are you?
still young enough to get away with heinous crimes such as this thread.
I'm at the sweet spot of liking some obscurish stuff but not past the threshold of having to pretend to like stuff
I meant how many people in the world would you say your taste in music is a better than (and by this I mean more indie) as a percentage, not how much better than there's is your music taste as a percentage! 99.9% seems a pretty reasonable percentage for an average DiSer, which is a compliment surely...
I then meant how many DiSers would you say your taste in music is better (more indie) than, as a percentage. I said 40%, which isn't particularly boastful.
It's just a fun thread I made when I was bored. There's no need to be such bullish, sanctimonious fruitcakes about it.
only directed at a few people
Your real crime here is overestimating the degree of 'superiority' of your taste in music. There is no way your taste in music is more indie than 99.9% of the world's population.
All I said was I think my music taste is better than 99.9% of people's (you're right maybe not that much, but in the 90s for sure, not that there's anything morally indecent about thinking so, that seems like a fair estimation given how many people are into chart music or rubbish bands). But 0.01% of 7 billion is still a heck of a lot of people and I'd guess around that percentage of people are potential DiSers, who are likely to have a better taste in music than me.
I can only think of a handful DiS-like people I've ever met in real life (and I know I don't exactly fit in with the cool people here), and maybe 2 people who've actually listened to a Radiohead albums (for example), so 99.9% doesn't seem too wildly unreasonable when you look at it from that perspective.
so that probably (un)skews things a bit
is the same problem as the people who think girls dont play games.
How many other people have you asked and engaged with regarding music?
This is a music forum so people talk about music but in your daily life do you just talk about music, no, there will be co-workers, friends and strangers that you have never engaged with on the topic of music who might be hugely interested in strange independent music.
Unless you are a fan of obscure underground free jazz my bet is you are seriously underestimating people. DiS isnt really the obscure in terms of music taste. It mostly focuses around indie-rock acts which know how to write a few catchy hooks.
You basically saying here that your music taste is better then 999/1000 people. Despite the questionable use of a subjective word such as 'better' its probably much closer to 1/10. If even that.
You remind me of a friend who said how she was really into 'underground Californian music' like Warpaint. I went on to explain that given that both of Warpaints albums chart in the top 50 (their second in the top ten) and have youtube videos with over a million hits they are hardly underground. I also went on to bet that at least 10 people in the bar we were in would have heard of them. Most of the bands discussed in DiS sell out many of their shows they are hardly unknown. Just because they dont get much MTV plays does not mean they are not popular.
Also music taste is a highly individual and personal thing. Why would you even compare yourself to others? I love being able to learn about new artists from other people, regardless if the are popular groups, indie bands, experimental music or simply a local singer songwriter I haven't manged to see live yet. As soon as you start this elitist approach you are putting yourself in a position where you miss out on a lot of great music.
I mean seriously, do you get out much?
How about you start going to gigs?
How do you even know this? Have you asked everyone you know if they listen to radiohead? They have 11million facebook likes, and you can safely presume that their are two or three times that many people who like them.
In fact I have about 250 facebook friends and 1/5 of them like them enough to follow Radioheads facebook page. These people are in the most part not DiSers. Almost all their albums have shifted millions of physical copies. Never mind all the online sales, streaming and illegal downloads that have happened.
Next you are going ask me why more people dont listen to Nirvana!
there was a time honestly
I'm getting nasty feedback because people think I'm MPBH, that's all it is.
You just need to give people the opportunity to list their favourite albums. They like that.
This will quell all animosity.
I think we can all agree that the real psychopaths are those on the social board that seldom step foot here.
what are your favourite albums?
DiS coolio still_here
My Chemical Romance
Fall Out Boy
Jimmy Eat World (even post-Futures)
Snow Patrol (maybe not the last two albums, even I have a limit)
Suck it, indie illuminati.
I've been seeding it for many years, I'm starting to see results, their critical reassessment is coming. You will all see.
In their current guise they're definitely one of the more interesting pop acts currently operating.
Not sure how it can be any other way?
I'm also extremely attractive, intelligent, and can eat one of those sugary doughtnuts without licking my lips.
What do I win?
