I've got tickets for her Cafe Oto gig on Sunday. Should be interesting.
Been listening to it quite a bit already this week.
Take Care of Yourself and Sabbath are my early favourites but hopefully it will all grow over time.
Will I like this?
IIK started off excellently but really tails off in the second half.
Why This, Heaven, The Battle Is Over and Sabbath are excellent, Why This is one of her best songs yet, I adore the production.
I think she overused the spoken word and the closer feels a little too dragged out, but I appreciate the vibe.
Until I picked this up on a whim. Damn it's so good. First track is better poetry than most contemporary poets. Where do I go next, iik?
Really enjoying it.
Everyone I like seems to play at cafe oto. guess I should go some day.
There's no aircon so it can get seriously uncomfortable. Marissa Nadler was complaining about how hot it was when she played there in April.
The new album is easily my favourite album of the month so far. I didn't know what to expect gig-wise. I was expecting more than a standard gig but not the hour of performance art that we got. All the better for it. I'm usually a pint at the back type of gig-goer but am very glad that I managed to get a good standing spot. The two other girls' performance on stage together with Jenny Hval and the visuals made for one of the oddest gigs I've been to for a while but easily one of the best too.
By the way. Hval can really sing too when she wants to. I guess that's almost lost amongst the spoken words and spoken whispers. Anyway, a brilliant gig.
I went to the Brighton one, more people should do stuff like that, even really simple ideas like one of the women walking around hval filming hval with an ipad projecting on the screen was really effective, the kareokee bit really worked too
Thought it was largely ace, apart from the ending where it sort of went all faux-drone and she lay on the floor for a bit too long. If it had ended with The Battle is Over I think it would've worked better.
Pretty amazing all told.
Can't remember the last time I laughed out loud at a concert.
I thought opener Anna B Savage was also really good.
couldn't really say i like her though
do you know what i mean by that?
touring over the next few days
excellent Briana Marela supporting as well. gonna go to the glasgow show
got a bit more into the album over time. not sure it's wholly successful but i do enjoy listening to it which is the main thing eh
"I say 'cunt' in a lot of different ways on this album."
New album and tour later in the year:
Seeing her for the first time at Primavera next weekend. Squeee!
that innocence is kinky video is totally NSFW, interestingly you don't have to log in to watch it if it's embedded on another page which seems like a slight oversight.
me too primavera. squee.
I forget how prolific she is with her releases.
New track is excellent.
steals a bit of the melody from half the world away there. fucking brilliant though.
but still very nice.
Really looking forward to seeing her in... 88days!
