Lineup due at some point today.
Anyone been before?
The festival was honestly a bit of a let down but Paris was great. Heavy handed security made me miss the start of Ought's set which sort of got things off on the wrong foot. You weren't able to leave and come back which was a pain. Scheduling was really odd with Belle & Sebastian on after St Vincent and James Blake after St Vincent struggling to keep the energy in the room - also Jose Gonzales went on forever.
Would consider going back but only if the line up was particularly special.
decent but probably not enough for me personally.
How many bands will there be in total?
For the most part it was good fun.
Belle & Sebastian do absolutely nothing for me. I don't do twee.
Absolutely agree with you about James Blake and Jose Gonzales being mood killers.
Some real high points at the festival though. Jon Hopkins, Mogwai, Chvrches, Jamie XX, Four Tet, The War on Drugs etc.
Fairly cheap for a three day festival and as stuff doesn't start until the evening you could do some touristy stuff around Paris before hand.
Hoping there's some other big names to come. Do they usually announce more "headliners" after the initial announcement? Was hoping for Sufjan/Run The Jewels/Sleater Kinney/Hot Chip....
1. Belle & Sebastian, Caribou, Mogwai, Future Islands, MO
2. James Blake, Chvrches, The War on Drugs, Son Lux, Jungle
3. St Vincent, The Notwist, Ben Khan, Ought, Perfect Pussy, Jessy Lanza
4. How to Dress Well, Four Tet, Jamie xx, tUnE-yArDs, Foxygen, Kaytranada
5. Jon Hopkins, José González, Movement, D.D Dumbo, and Charlotte OC
1. The Knife, Hot Chip, Deerhunter, Warpaint, the Haxan Cloak, Junip
2. Disclosure, Yo La Tengo, Iceage, Glass Candy, Baths, Jagwar Ma, Only Real
3. Panda Bear, No Age, Deafheaven, Mac DeMarco, Todd Terje, Mount Kimbie, Omar Souleyman, Blood Orange, Colin Stetson
4. Ariel Pink, A-Trak, Savages, Youth Lagoon, Majical Cloudz, Empress Of
You're looking at a fair few big names yet to be added.
Looking at that list above, it's probably the best line up of the last few years at this stage.
Very very up my street. Yo La Tengo's European dates are around the same time, hoping they get announced too.
Seems pretty fucking reasonable.
But am worried there'll be some stuff I love announced later and I'll kick myself for not getting tickets that cheap. Hmm.
which is equivalent to 87 of your english pounds.
They won't get more expensive, usually.
I've booked them on their app anyway. I'd just like to know whether I'm likely to get fucked over in 5 months time.
can you see ATP'S name attached anywhere?
Run The Jewels
Unknown Mortal Orchestra
John Talabot B2B Roman Flügel
I'm going to get a ticket on payday, I think.
Maybe the stars align and Battles, Björk and Run The Jewels all play on the same day.
Also, I'm taking offers of money or otherwise to stay on my sofabed.
Has so far
Three day passes sold out the last two years. Maybe by the end of September, if memory serves...
Individual tickets for the Björk day will probably sell out fast.
Björk, Battles and HEALTH for 54 eur is pretty tidy.
Joy Orbison, Sophie, Lunice, Martyn, Fatima Al Qadiri last year.
Trying to keep expectations low based on that review above, but £85! Such a deal.
It is Paris after all.
(Stupid strong sterling making everything so expensive for me in the UK right now)
Might get a thursday ticket at a later date if I can get the afternoon off.
got any advice with regard to accommodation? Would the travel to and, more importantly given the time, from the venue be such a pain that somewhere within comfortable walking distance would be a big priority?
It's a short walk and quite cheap. http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-1401-ibis-paris-la-villette-cite-des-sciences-19th/index.shtml
(It isn't a short walk if your phone is dead, and you've gone from the hotel, into the city, and from the city to the festival, and have forgotten what 'adroit' means at 5am after 14 hours of drinking.... but that's another story)
However if you're thinking you'll be doing the after parties it's worth thinking about staying in that area. Paris is also way smaller than most capitals so you can walk (or if you're feeling bold, hire a velib and cycle) home. I'd recommend looking at places near Bassin de la Villette and the canal, métros Laumière, Jaurés/Stalingrad, Ourcq, Colonel Fabien... You could even try near to parc buttes-chaumont. Apparently Paris has the most airbnb listings in Europe, so make of that what you will (bastards are probably why my rent is so high).
Apparently we have sorted an Airbnb apartment next to Hoche metro, which looks to be about ten minutes walk away in a straight line down a main road. I'm still almost certain to get massively lost at some point.
I have but i'm going solo, so I will be listening out for DiSer meetups etc.
Smells like Pitchfork Paris to me
Last announcement didn't say "and more tbc" or similar.
2013: 28 acts
2014 27 acts
2015: 24 acts?
I suppose Bjork will have been pretty expensive...
so I assume the line up is not finished. Plus there's the after party stuff, which is normally pretty good, still to come.
Looking forward to it as Paris is great and loads of friends going too.
any clues as to what time the whole thing starts on thursday?
If you see a short man dancing on his own, say hi!
Now to leave the rest til the last minute
A bit of a sickener that, to be honest. With two months still to go and a headline act knocked out I'm presuming they'll be looking to add to the bill?
I hope she's ok and everything, but I want a refund.
Info is available on the official Facebook page.
is an 'Unavoidable scheudleing conflict'.
She is still playing wilderness this weekend.
Sounds like she got a better offer!
it is odd she's still playing wilderness though
some people have speculated it's to do with her legal situation, since matthew barney is suing her for custody of their daughter. really sad if that's the case. what a shit situation.
Don't know her personal life enough to know if that's a dumb suggestion or not.
but I'm not expecting it to be anyone who'll make it worth my while
Just after I get my tickets too gosh darn it. Wonder who they'll look to book.
this line up sucks now, glad i didn't buy tickets!
Still looking forward to the final announcement and possible replacement.
There's a perfect 3-day gap in Mew's European dates so that would be nice.
Braids are free too.
And Purity Ring are around too.
Yeah, those three please.
Think this is such a shitty reason to cancel a tour and they got slaughtered for it, so...
it's not necessarily the reason why she cancelled. as mentioned before, being involved in a custody battle has got to be having big implications for her life at the moment, especially when MB is arguing that she isn't there enough for the kid.
They are entirely different situations.
which it could as easily be "i'm not doing this tour cos whatever, but i'm writing new music, coincidentally"
but i think there's a subtext there that most people will be aware of
yeah i'm not sure 'most people' will be aware (none of my mates who had booked were aware of this situation and it isn't be talked about in most of the articles) but if that is the case it's sad and i hope things work out for her. saying she's working on new music though might not be the best diversion though, just sets people up for double disappointment if a record doesn't surface.
Bjork had a full string section and fireworks!
I think it's entirely likely that logistical reasons were a contributing factor. And not least, she's going through a pretty messy/bitter divorce and custody case by the sound of it.
I think, given the fact that she has spent 20-30 years performing for other people, she should be given a bit of a reprieve if she decides that in her current situation, she'd just rather sit at home and write.
if it were just the latter she'd deserve some grief for it
also added four tet
still one more name to come
far better than nothing, which is what we got at primavera. is Flea in Tomorrow's Modern Boxes? :D
p sure it's ty & godrich but i'm sure flea will make an appearance somehow, maybe selling honey
submitted for a refund.
If Garnier had been put on the Friday might've kept it...
But hopefully this will be a lot better. Presumably it will, as the Latitude one had lots of reasons why it wasn't great that were not down to Thom.
Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the line up for under £100
I'd actually lost much excitement for this after Bjork cancelled, but as you get to see every act on the line up, it's actually even better value than your average fest where you miss 2/3rds of it. Lined up like this it looks great.
I went to the first two and they were excellent. It's really hard to smuggle booze in and expensive inside, with no re-entry. There are a couple of supermarkets nearby if you fancy some cheap booze before you go in.
Guess it'll be your bog standard lager?
pretty sure it's tuborg they serve at la villette
and I'm not often shocked by prices, living in Geneva.
but it sounds like more in euros
for the John Talabot/Roman Flugel bit on Saturday night, right?
is how I understand it
That was my hope
I've never done one before. PM me or something.
It's definitely a very different thing to play a single DJ set than to fulfill the obligations of a tour, but I'd have expected her to lay low that weekend.
whatever made her cancel those shows, it must've been pretty serious. i don't think she has any reason to lay low/feel guilty.
I enjoyed it a lot and some of the bands were amazing.
Thom Yorke - 9
Run The Jewels - 8
HEALTH - 9
Father John Misty - 10
Haelos - 7
Kirin J Callinan - 6
Godspeed - 9
Deerhunter - 7
Dornik - 8
Rome Fortune - 8
Rhye - 7
Kurt Vile - 6
Ariel Pink - 2
Four Tet - 8 (for the first half, I was tired and wanted my bed.)
Hinds - 7
Nao - 7
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - 6
Some issues though. Get some spirits on the bar next time. Don't put Ratatat above Spiritualized, Father John Misty AND Run The Jewels. Don't put Rhye above HEALTH.
Keep the pizza. The pizza was gorgeous.
Who else went in the end?
I went as well. Fully agree with you on the scheduling. Ariel Pink was really awful and deserved to be bottled off, felt like they were taking the piss. Heineken at €7 a pint plus the deposit wasnt as expensive as we expected. Wasnt happy with the amount of smoking in the venue
Spiritualized after Run The Jewels actually worked quite well, agreed with Ratatat.
Battles were probably the best band of the weekend. Ariel Pink was laughable.
Too much smoking inside like you said, too many folk asking if i could sell/wanted to buy drugs...leave me alone i'm 34 ffs!
Acts I was really looking forward to delivered (Battles, Four Tet, RTJ), and some very pleasant surprises (Destroyer, Father John Misty)- very few low-points. As a festival I thought the two-stage setup worked really well, generally a really good atmosphere with a very low dickhead count. Agreed though that with a 6-7 hour run of live shows and no pass out of the festival they could do something more interesting on the drinks front than a load of stalls selling Heineken. All in all though felt tremendous value for money, especially as we nabbed a great apartment on Airbnb that was a 10 minute stroll to the venue. Would definitely go again.
Pleasantly surprised by the price of the beer, but man was I sick of lager by the end of it. Unfortunately missed Destroyer, but heard good things. Battles were outstanding, as were Spiritualized, FJM... Very impressed by pretty much everyone I saw, bar Kurt Vile and Ariel Pink tbh, but they don't do much for me anyway.
Loved the city though, first time in Paris and I had a blast. Would be extremely up for going again.
