same night as i'm seeing taylor swift urgh
where choosing between boredoms and taylor swift is a legit headache
me and the rest of the poptimist brigade
won't be as fun though will it :(
will be purchasing
Never heard of them but I'm always up for bands with a shitload of drummers
Seventy-seven drummers in a park in NYC. I have the DVD which is seriously worth a watch.
Their studio albums are amazing. 'Super AE' and 'Vision Creation Newsun' are brilliant, along with the 'Super Roots' series. I need to get more of their albums.
Got me tickets hoorayyy
They dont do it jistice rreally but you get the idea
Consistently AMAZING band. So happy.
That they are playing Glastonbury as I can't make this because it's the same weekend! :(
If it's not amazing I'm gonna be furious
is near the front of the circle better than the side of stalls, at the barbican?
when you go to Taylor Swift you can sell it to me in any case ;)
i'm gonna try and get a ticket for taylor swift in Norwich and if that works out then sell my London taylor swift ticket (for like £500) and get a boredoms ticket i think
just looking at pix n that the circle seats appear to be a fair bit further back stalls (not restricted view) prob better, anyone???
i got M10 earlier.
good to know i won't be sat near someone chatting over all those drummers
THROUGHOUT so you are lucky
(when I saw Earth in Glasgow there was a man talking loudly about Kurt Kobain all the way through)
when you see the vaselines these days they do a requests bit and i'm always really tempted to shout out 'smells like teen spirit'
but I'd definitely go for front of the circle over side of the stalls personally at the Barbican Hall.
Never seen them before.
post below if you are going
also let's organise some pre-drinks
The Two Brewers on Whitecross Street is the nearest decent pub to the Barbican. If you want to sit outside (as it is expected to be a nice day on Saturday) I'd recommend the Crown Tavern on Clerkenwell Green.
will you also be pre-drinking?
What sort of time are you thinking of meeting up?
i've got to go to hyde park at some point to sell my taylor swift ticket... seems like you have to get to the barbican eight-ish
so like six maybe?
I have a ticket to this but unfortunately can't go now. If anyone wants it, let me know and you can have it.
live video from earlier this year, with all the cymbals I imagine this will be reasonably similar to their show on Saturday:
Email from the Barbican...
Sat 27 Jun, Hall
The start time for this concert has changed.
Doors will open at 8pm and the concert will begin at 8.30pm.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and look forward to welcoming you to the Barbican.
The Barbican Contemporary Music Team.
The wave effect with the drummers swaying back and forth was terrific.
unique and powerful
but im here to tell all the people who didnt go that it wasn't, for me, an all time great gig cos it got a bit boring. still good stuff, well done
Would I have been dead bored and did I make the right decision?
i like to affirm people's life decisions, so long as they don't impact negatively on others, within reason
(i imagine you would have been very impressed for a few minutes)
I feel a lot better about doing literally nothing with my weekend now
Hope you sold/gave away your ticket though so someone else could enjoy it.
I reckon it's one of those things that you would have been glad to have seen once even if it wasn't life affirming.
It wasn't up there with the best I've ever seen them.
I think part of it might have been because I tend to prefer them when they're rhythm-driven, and the waves of cymbals kept disrupting that, but also it might have been because we were probably a little too near the front and too low down, meaning that we didn't get the full visual effect and the cymbals drowned out a lot of the other stuff.
I found it fascinating though, especially watching the different techniques and postures of the players.
One of my friends was leading a group of cymbal players haha. I'm sad to have missed out on this.
notably the bits from Vision Creation Newsun towards the end. I loved the cymbals and the wave patterns they were making, visually and sonically but they did often override a lot of the other stuff. And sometimes it did drag, but when they got into that krautrock groove about 2/3 through it was fairly blissful, as were the jet engine crescendoes.
Definitely should've finished half an hour earlier, that final reprise was self indulgent even if it was a GREAT ending.
The other Boredoms sets I've seen have been 90 minutes long, and I think that's the perfect length for them. Some incredible moments - I liked the bit when it went all "Akira", and was super-happy when it segued into (Circle) - but the ATP Boadrums sets were definitely stronger overall.
Also, I accidentally ended up in the front row, which meant after half-an-hour I couldn't really distinguish anything through the tinnitus.
a bit better than 150 minutes and a load of cymbals playing VCN
but guys what a ridiculous and ambitious thing they are doing you gots to love it. Like they thought that thing on Saturday up and executed it. Fucking brilliant. Best band
he made my night by telling me that I looked 'really good...very structurally cohesive'
Enjoyed large parts of it. Way too long though, probably should have dropped an hour.
yeah was good
the opening with the cymbals slowly rising in volume started off sounding like rain drops, then gradually into waves crashing, before ending sounding like a fucking jet engine!!
did anyone else though notice the really bad sound problems about halfway through? kinda sounded like a drum mic lead was fucked, and some of eye's loops were cutting in and out. i was sat with a fairly decent in line view of the sound deck and there were several moments through where i could see 4 or 5 engineers frantically trying to sort it out,,,
available for the Boredoms upcoming show at Scala (moved from the Kentish Town Forum by that scamp Barry Hogan, original tickets still valid etc) on the 18th April, stupidly double-booked with a holiday - http://scala.co.uk/events/boredoms/
£20 face value, will accept £10 for a quick sale. PM if interested please!
Happy to shift them for a tenner each. PM me if you're interested.
