What i don't understand about M People is that they were formed by Graham Pickering. Wasn't he a pretty cool, cutting edge DJ at that time? What was he doing making such a pish pop/soul hybrid?
..MIKE Pickering of course!
Absolutely hate every piece of music they made and Heather Smalls voice is abhorrent.
but I think Scouting For Girls just edge ahead
Everything I've ever unfortunately heard from them has almost made me physically sick
Boyz II Men are utter drivel. If you like 'em, then good for you.
BUT you can fuck off and all
If your comment wasn't meant for me, I apologise.
Is there ANY mediocre-to-shit 90s artist you don't love? I imagine you'll be wearing your Rednex t-shirt next time I see you.
Listening to a man standing up sounding like he's trying to shit himself.
Otherwise you end up putting Kula Shaker up some rungs for having covered Hush.
no need to get nasty.
I tell you somebody's fooling around
With my chances on the danger line
And it was you, dickhead.
I hate them so much I can't even be bothered to confirm I've spelled their name correctly
you fucking idiots
first album was good
i thought the altindie revaluation of them happened like last year or possibly the year before or possibly 2008ish
I hate threads where we all talk about music we don't like, but for what it's worth there are loads of bands worse than M People (Mumford and Sons just to name the first to come to mind).
M People are pretty inoffensive I think, although I'd certainly never chose to listen to them.
No idea what types listen to them!
Some of their early stuff was pretty good (e.g. One In
UB40's first album is reflective of the times in which it created. Pity they became so tired and lazy once that cash cow 'cover and old song in a reggae stylee' made them so much money. Post 2 Tone they were - briefly - important. Shit for decades afterwards.
But JohnM's post - "*are" - in that it wasn't replying to anything else, I took to be a correction to the grammatical construct of the thread title.
"Song for song, is M People..."
I assumed JohnM was correcting that to:
"Song for song, ARE M People..."
The thing is, the original thread title is grammatically correct. M People are a band. They're a group of people, but a singular band. As such, "Is M People" is correct.
But like I say, perhaps I'm confused. This place is terribly confusing.
Is M People a band or aren't they? Either was I really don't like its music.
However, band is one of those nouns which can be either singular or plural depending on the context of what you are saying about them.
Are inoffensive drivel. I know little about the group individually but they are probably decent artists that threw the band together to make some money as it was that time in there careers to get on or get out. Bizarre Fruit sold very well with its mass bland appeal - I bet they, if pushed would admit it is drivel.
Still better than Pearl Jam though.
