i'll hand over my indie points on the way out
I know it's probably not aimed at the likes of me, but that is terrible. I can count 4 bands on there I would probably see, and one of the is Limp Bizkit and that'd be mainly to see if Fred Durst is as much of a pillock as I imagine he would be
Surely someone's just drawn up a list of the most dreary awful bands in the world as a joke? There is literally not a single act there that I would want to see
American Football (fourth on the bill on the second stage being headlined by Limp Bizkit, so that's why I missed them)
I agree it is absolutely appalling but Mastodon, Alvvays, Django Django and Run the Jewels are good.
But nowhere enough to want to stand in a field and watch them try to impress a few thousand Limp Bizkit fans
Always annoys me how rarely decent hip-hop acts play in the UK yet Reading has got a pretty good selection for the second year in a row.
(contains former members of Pendulum)
they were the headliners of Glastonbury festival once upon a time. You can count the acts worth watching on one hand. Did Leeds festival used to be loads better, or did I just used to be loads younger?
Second from top on main stage once, third from top a few years later (when Tim came out with his guitar on fire). Still like 'em, I reckon they'll pack the tent even if they're not as popular as they once were.
Actually there's plenty of decent stuff in there amongst the less good stuff.
One was their set one cos of the cancellation?
They've also headlined the second stage at reading before.
it was great.
That Sunday line up looks worse than waterboarding
Apart from Mansun who didn't play a song as the stage was sinking.
Holy fuck. That sentence alone should just never exist never mind that it was an actual thing that happened.
Someone woman next to me had apparently decided to watch Kula Shaker instead of Radiohead the night before.
Anyway, they played the hits and fucked off, from what I recall. I still own "K". I tried playing it a few years back and I think I got 1.5 songs in.
I can't believe i have to miss the Metallicas and Run The Jewels to go to a wedding on the Saturday and Kendrick and Refused had best not clash on the Sunday.
voice of the oppressed right there
theyre from kent
the other's a Sacremento-based post-hardcore band, apparently
It's definitely not a good name to go with.
The 6Music festival included Tom Ravenscroft and Mark Riley going on about how much they loved them. That was a bit depressing.
who changed their name from Slaves because of distaste towards that name, or at least that was always my understanding
it's not that bad though
I have found this in recent years, I often never hear of them again either.
I would see Refused, Modern Life Is War (I think I saw them in TJs in Newport about 10 years ago??), Mastodon, Alvvays and - that is it. Ash?
Thousands will still attend and the organisers will still make a killing.
actually its no worse than it ever was.
I'd be really up for:
Run the Jewels
mastodon (insane they clash with metallica tho....)
+ cancer bats.
+ thats without a full lineup, and including the fact that i caught the libertines in 2010(or 9?), so have no real need to see them... The only "hmm interesting" thing is that the Libertines are now deemed big enough to healine when they weren't then
they've done that a few times, since the Alkaline Trio were billed at the same time as Green Day. Which is why I'm concerned they might therefore clash Refused and Kendrick
Actually tempted by the lineup
that stat about how many of the acts feature women is pretty scary though
Or those that include a female anyway.
I can't immediately think of any big hitters that could/should be on a Reading line-up. Paramore I guess but they headlined last time. Haim, maybe.
Not saying it shouldn't be flagged up, but I wonder how much of it is the festival's 'fault'.
landed Sleater Kinney yet?
and Coal Chamber
trying to remember that British goth metal type band from the early-mid 00s that had a female singer. They were mildly popular for five minutes. and were always quite 'dramatic' live. What are they called?!
i stand by this
he thinks Status Quo are noise
First Aid Kit
Tegan & Sara
Just some of the Indie crowd of the last few years that spring to mind. Would say Warpaint as well but I think they played last year, right? Mind you, not as if they never book the same acts year after year anyway.
Certainly plenty good female led acts out there to choose from.
Florence is back around.
Even Lily Allen is doing some festivals this year.
Literally no excuse for it tbh
ENJOY BJORK AT READING
that had women in them. the last 3 were Paramore last year, Pulp in 2011 and Arcade Fire, way back in 2010, 2 of these bands were joint headliners with all male groups playing after them.
to new order in 1989
(now that was a line up - swans, mbv, spaceman 3, that petrol emotion, the house of love & tackhead were the other bands on the main stage that day)
and why not FKA Twigs?
And if you want the fucking obvious
Courtney Love is touring this year
With Lana Del Rey supporting
And loads of those already mentioned
We Are The In-Crowd
The Summer Set
Babes in Toyland
All totally appropriate Reading acts.
plenty of good suggestions all round
no excuses at all
American Football supporting for Limp Bizkit :'DDDDDDDD
Sorry, I thought you were complaining that they were the wrong way round on the bill. Limp Bizkit being on any festival line up anywhere is cause for mirth, tbf.
you just calm down it's been a tough day for all of us
Luckily I never really liked Reading anyway.
What a profoundly bad name for a band. Are they massive somewhere or something?
i guess they're better than they used to be. kids love them though.
*Yeah, they're basically My Chemical Romance now, and not even slightly metal (their newer stuff is passably listenable, even good in places, their older heavier stuff is embarrassingly awful), but still they're pretty huge.
