A few weeks ago me and my girlfriend were out in Leeds and stopped for a quick drink at a bar. These two guys were playing and taking requests off the punters. We are both really into 90's indie music and fired them with a handful of really obscure stuff, of which they played perfectly. We were only going to stay for one drink, but three hours later, they were still playing and we were still drinking! Turns out they do weddings too so I took their number just incase!
This is exactly what I have been looking for!
Would you, shit I mean, would they travel to Scotland for a wedding?
I know you're not in the band but could you do me a favour and ask them if they know & play any of the following songs?
Would there fly out if the price is right?
PS No reggae.
I love it
...I played, with the bridesmaid on drums. Started with "Jack The Ripper" by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Turned out that the wedding was actually a weeding (out) of dickhead friends who turned out to be pricks.
then probably just loads of Prince
including the WOOWHHWYW in that Professor Levy song
i think this is a JAG
SOMEONE TELL SEAN PRONTO
to perform a rousing medley of the best of the Beatles
*The Best of The Creeps
(Sidenote: has there ever been a JAG on DiS by a band that wasn't influenced by Oasis?)
...playing "a whiter shade of pale" and "november rain", but it was in Vegas. And pretty short notice
but do they know that song that's like rum didi rum didi rum dum lightening bolt by yer man Jake and the Buggs?
Can they do a convincing Tina This Is Matthew Stone?
was 'king great.
That's amazing. I'm a frequenter of Oli's Fag Machine nights.
and probably affordable
just in case someone *is* looking for a wedding band, the worst thing you could do is pick one like this that focuses on doing obscure stuff only you like - nothing worse than paying a large wedge to throw a party no-one's having fun at. Pick a band that'll play a combination of well known stuff that everyone recognises and you'll have a far better time yourself.
I'd say wedding bands are largely unnecessary. Paying the best part of 1000 sheets to hear them poorly reproduce party classics? Can't get behind that. At all.
Of course if you're having some entertainment which links to music in some way then... fine. Ceilidhs are bang on trend at the moment. Going to 2 weddings with Ceilidhs this year. How novel.
But... nah, save your pennies. No-one ever comes away from a wedding going `hey that covers band were good weren't they`
Have a mate who has a proper amazing wedding band, mainly funk type stuff, full brass section etc, played my cousin's wedding and later this year my brother's. Fookin' amazing, best Sir Duke and Superstition cover you're likely to hear.
to what I'm describing. Seems there might be a tier of wedding band class that I'm yet to experience...
Like a PROPER band as opposed to just a bunch of chancers who know Brown Eyed Girl and that.
Think the whole point is fun, they have to be fun. Not in a totally novelty way either. Needs to get people dancing and that because they proper want to.
Yeah Brown Eyed Girl would be a fucking shocker.
Good topic otherwise. When I went to see Laura Groves the other day I was thinking how she'd be great for a wedding. As in, I really like her, and I can imagine both my mum and nan liking her.
But if I did, Talking Heads tribute all the way!
this is actually amazing.

but is just a really fucking weird guy
I'm very interested in hiring these guys but before I do I need clarification on just how obscure this 90s indie stuff was.
Not obscure at all e.g. Sparky's Dream by Teenage Fanclub
Pretty obscure e.g. Phasers On Stun by Urusei Yatsura
Totally obscure e.g. Prizefighter by Pony
PS Thanks for the link to the hilariously awful FEAR/Wonderwall medley. Gave me a right good laugh.
that Urusei Yatsura would only count as pretty obscure if played at a wedding you have an awful lot of music obsessive friends and family.
You would need a new category for 'even less obscure than not obscure at all'. And then an even less-obscure one, like 'fucking ubiquitous' or something.
The odds of them doing any of them well are roughly 0.0001% then.
It turns out you can't just have an idea and expect it to exist.
swadders - do you think they have eighteen mates who can play brass and who know the best of Destiny's Child?
Band I posted about above http://www.funknation.co.uk/wp/video/single-ladies/
THIS IS MY JAG NOW SWADDERS
YOU FUCKED UP
problem is, very few would get it. Most would complain, "can they play some Seger, or Billy Joel? What about the hustle (they mean My Eyes Don't Cry)"
so we can all stand around staring at our feet and lightly swaying occasionally.
First dance would be part 1 of Metal Machine Music
