It's really good. Got sad chills a couple of times on first listen.
by his face and name.
First album is a modern classic.
More fool you!
...though this chap is being pretty aggressively promoted at the moment. His face is all over the LNDN NDRGRND.
Plus he looks a bit Commune Mumford.
Doesn't really compare, does he: http://www.pitch.com/binary/2b5e/Bonnie_Prince_Billy.jpg
to see who looks more authentic.
Even worse than a Keiji Haino monstrosity
but then again I'm a sucker for good lyrics, a good voice and an ear for melody
on the basis that it made my hair stand on edge. If an album makes my gut happy then it must be good.
it sounds like a carbon copy of "Queen of Denmark" era John Grant - the opening track of which is called "TC & Honeybear". Obviously that is a great album so I need to listen further.
it immediately gave me that warm buzz that Queen of Denmark did. I've been waiting for another record just like that after Pale Green Ghosts left me cold.
It's simultaneously a very enjoyable synth pop and soul-baring listen and the lyrics are still excellent.
Haven't listened to something this lyrically arresting for a while. Burst out laughing at 'I hate that soulful affectation white girls put on' on the train last night.
Want someone to call me Honeybear ASAP
I don't know when I started.
Stop buying your albums from the supermarket.
Lavish production, lovely arrangements and needle sharp lyrics. Early shout for AOTY for me.
I mean there's some lovely tunes and it sounds great (definite leap forward from his underwhelming first LP) but there's something irritating and overwrought about it.
Any album with canned laughter on it is definitely pretty wry.
but i like him
and then ended up enjoying it.
I liked his last album too - it was a huge leap up in quality and wit and confidence from his first half dozen or so solo releases.
I just think that since he's 'discovered' Father John Misty he's been totally magnetic as a live performer too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PvcmhKRGeY
Or going off the deep end, but it's pretty entertaining
One of my favourites so far this year...
surprised DIS don't love him more.
and I REALLY didn't want to like it.
and he's fucking hilarious
Great great record. Very much up there amongst the excellent catalogue of 2015 releases.
first time out maybe he wasn't sure if the 'idea' would work.. this time he's like 'fuck it.. '. it's a fucking absolute barnstormer.
what is his earlier solo stuff like?
Ideal Husband as my first dance song at my wedding. What do you guys think?
Bored in the USA
though i've not listened to Fear Fun yet
It's more of the same, but less. It's more reserved lyrically and less lavish instrumentally. It's still good but it's nowhere near the fully formed idea Honeybear is.
Nancy from now on and This is Sally Hatchet are better than anything on Honeybear. Don't get me wrong, I love both albums but Honeybear seems to dawdle along at the same pace for quite a lot of the album where is Fear Fun is all over the place and much the better for it.
Just another indie singer/songwriter album, Honeybear surpasses it in atmosphere, songwriting, vocal and lyrical chops. You are however entitled to be wrong.
Dull ? hahahaha. You seem desperate to be right so I'll leave you to it. Probably need to clean your ears out though.
He's such an incredible performer too!
make his Leeds date next Wednesday, so have tickets to get rid of. 30 for the pair if any one is interested.
Absolutely stunning. I was a little gobsmacked at just how great it was. He's also a hilariously filthy bastard!
Someone snap these tickets up!!!
