some of my favourite music at the moment is coming out on the wonderful la based netlabel Zoom Lens so i thought i would make a thread about them. in my mind they are the natural heirs to the golden age of Sincerely Yours. in their own words:
Founded in 2009. LA/SF
"Humanity Across The Digital Divide. Digital Punk Rock Spirit."
Zoom Lens was created in order to explore the implications of popular culture on the human condition and the duality of musical creations discovered across the digital landscape.
Zoom Lens means to critically look beyond the surface and see what lies beyond, while reclaiming the humanity and emotion of art.
musically, the music is a mix of bit-tune, hip-hop, laptop noise, j-pop and twee 90s indie melodies. mixed with the soft-situationist aesthetic, this is obviously 'my thing'.
some of my favourite releases so far:
the bilinda butchers 'lovers suicide' single http://zoomlens.bandcamp.com/album/the-lovers-suicide-zlep-09
i-fls 'fictional standard' ep http://zoomlens.bandcamp.com/album/fictional-standard-ep-zlep-13
meishi smile 'lust' album http://zoomlens.bandcamp.com/album/lust-zl-18 <--- probably the 'zoom lens' urtext
yeule 'yeule' ep http://zoomlens.bandcamp.com/album/yeule-zl-20
they are having a great year so far having already released two albums, by DJ Obake and LA Pumpkin.
most of this stuff is cheapish to download (i think it's a flat fee of $5 ~ £3.30 for albums and $3 ~ £2 for eps) and all free to stream, and of the highest quality.
