This thread prompted by a friend of mine playing me alt-J's version of 'Lovely Day'. Really unncessarily bad.
Edward Furlong doing "People are strange":
Sikth - Tupelo
you like it?
though Michael Gira considers it the worst thing he's ever done.
But it works on its own terms I think. The acoustic Jarboe sung version (the one I posted) is a bit lovely, I've always thought.
Worst version must be Paul Young's, complete with tortured vocals and the most 80s drum sound ever:
I know U2 covered it as well, but I'm not brave enough to listen to that.
This fake 'David Bowie' version is pretty hilarious
all I could find is live videos of With or Without You with Bono mixing in some of the lyrics of LWTUA.
there's also a video of them covering it with Arcade Fire:
it's not bad, but it sounds a bit more upbeat than it should. Covers of this song mostly annoy me because Joy Division have so many better tracks, but this is the only one anyone wants to perform.
To watch U2 covering Joy Division with Arcade Fire.
I suppose LWTUA is bound to get covered because not only is it Joy Division's most well known song but it's also the closest they ever got to a conventional pop song. The other obvious candidate would be Transmission, I suppose, beautifully covered by Low:
Will check it out this evening.
Sounds like Talk Talk.
I think it's a marked improvement.
Ronan Keating tackles Fairytale of New York:
Duran Duran take on Public Enemy:
must be considered the absolute worst. You do not cover a song about police brutality against the black community if you are white and rich.
is fucking awful.
That Duran Duran covering Public Enemy sounds exactly like Red Hot Chilli Peppers
that covers were David Bowie's one blind spot. His versions of Friday on my Mind and Let's Spend the Night Together are both pony. I think I'm on my own on this one, mind,
Pin Ups is seldom played - tho my Dad says he bought it when it was first released and had no idea it was a covers album and loved it like it were original.
Let's Spend the Night Together is woeful and the difference between Aladdin Sane being a four star album to a five star album. However, his version of Wild is the Wind is incredible- constantly debating whether this is his greatest song, despite not being his. He simply nails the vocals.
I thought it was dreadful. Now I absolutely fucking love it, way better than the Stones version (and I say that as a big Stones fan). Sounds like they're all totally off their tits in the studio & having an absolute ball.
Another awesome Bowie cover is It Ain't Easy on
Also Wild is The Wind as mentioned above.
terrible terrible song
and hid behind the sofa
I'm guessing there's a reason comments are disabled for that upload.
not posting a link, its that bad
Ruins an otherwise good album.
Also never had much love for The Specials version of Maggie's Farm.Always struck me a disjointed, although kudos for reinterpreting an old song into something more political.
If they don't fit in don't include them on the damn CD. A separate disk of bonus tracks is alright though. I just find it annoying when i'm trying to listen to an album in full.
... it was on a separate disc tho.
I have just noticed that my copy is one of those ridiculous Japanese edition prints.
but on its own, it's really kind of crap. It doesn't help that it's seemingly spawned its own genre where Some Guy with a webcam uploads a video to youtube of him covering a pop song, but it's ultra serious because he plays an acoustic guitar and/or ukulele.
that still haunt my dreams, about a decade after somebody played me 45 seconds of it
just read that they're still a band
Ruins the album for me.
Jeremys_Iron is also a terrible cover of my username.
it's just so pointless, especially on an album already weighed down with filler.
I wanna perfect baaaaardeeer
doing Baby One More Time
A load of old arse.
Kinda like this in a way.
Oh baybeh bay-BEEEHHH!
I know it's popular and loads of people here like it, but I think it sucks big time.
my friends hate this, i kinda like it
I've only ever seen this and No Diggity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1JsBhRCRH0
No idea about anything else about him, bet he's big in Australia or something.
That No Diggity cover came on and I left the room.
Particularly amused to find out they're still playing it at their gigs
all indie covers of r&b
when white people do hip hop covers with keyboards
more cringe than anything
this one springs to mind especially:
Have heard one decent cover of a hip hop tune by a guitar band - Supersuckers doing Ice Cube's Dead Homiez. Every single other one has been
Wait.. this is really good actually.
Thankfully not indie, and given the jazz element to this song it doesn't need a lot of work to get it right.
In tears watching Abigail
