cos they review everything, and don't give 1s, 2s or 3s to otherwise decent late-career albums which deserve 7s and 8s.
I think their opinions generally mirror my taste much more closely. I also think the reviewers come off as a bit more knowledgeable on the artist/genre they're reviewing.
Not giving Disintegration or The Holy Bible 5 stars.
Giving some of the early Cure albums lowish scores.
Giving Think Tank 2 stars.
Pitchfork only covers a limited range of artists and is mostly limited to music produced (or re-released) within its own lifespan.
Allmusic provides an extensive database of (official) music releases, but their 'reviews' fall into the Q magazine school of music criticism.
Q is the magazine that brings music alive. It draws together the biggest stars, the most exciting phenomena, the new artists that matter and a healthy dose of irreverence to create an unmissable widescreen picture of what’s really happening in rock and roll right now.
Every issue features agenda-setting star interviews, the month’s biggest moments in music, and fascinating investigations into the wider world of rock and roll. Each month Q’s comprehensive reviews section gives the last word on all the most important new releases and reissues – and feeds Q’s readers’ hunger for new music to enjoy.
Q’s reviews section is the ultimate critical overview of music. And magazine’s unrivalled access brings its readers up close and personal with the stars who set the agenda. Q is the ultimate rock and roll read.
stupid shit thread dunno why i'm replying
He might realize, and so he Allmusic'd Q magazine via their "about" section copy/paste lol
have actually seen some highly-respected journalists writing reviews for AM. and they're often more well-written (certainly more concise, less overwrought) than PFK reviews
it's useful when you like a glen campbell song and you just want someone to tell you what the best glen campbell record is and stuff like that. or when you see some jazz fella album for real cheap and you want to check if it's a live album recorded in a cupboard or something.
