The Quietus: Best Albums of 2014
Saw his posted in the general lists thread but thought it should get its own thread since their lists are always a bit different to the usual ones:
http://thequietus.com/articles/16739-albums-of-the-year-2014
Load of shite
Fucking hell, longest article ever
Shit list too.
Have you ever read anything on The Quietus before?
I have to ask because that's really not a long article by their standards, and long articles are part of the whole editorial approach of their site.
Enjoyed reading that
even if I've never heard of the majority of them . Will check a few out later.
woah
Gazelle Twin.
^spoiler.
Katie Gately at 7 as well.
Was hoping for a bit more interesting metals stuff, because they usually have some. not this year though, sadly and I don't like the choices they've included. Electric Wizard is good, not top 50 good though.
probably a lot to listen to in there. I have heard maybe 30% of that.
Fair play to Ant and Badman for having heard it all already.
That list is a fucking joke!!!11
I didn't click the link...
pretty crappy formatting
looks randomly thrown together with inconsistent information on the artist.
it's not bad otherwise.
Whenever I feel as though
I've kept on top of all the music coming out in a given year then the Quietus AOTY list comes out.
WHO?!!
Gazelle Twin
Was amazing at Corsica the other month.
Don't know that it's my favourite album of the year really but it's definitely a very good one and nice to something that it will make a real difference to the profile of the artist apart from same old winners!
Yeah that was an amazing gig!
I really love the album too, so it's good to see it getting some recognition.
Such a The Quietus list!!
some decent stuff in there
Nice to see one of my favourites, I Shall Die Here - The Body/Haxan Cloak, reasonably high.
Also Wrekmeister Harmonies, Perc, Shade Themes From Kairos and Bong, all of which are cracking albums.
love the Gazelle Twin album
alarmed to have recognised over half the list tho, guess counterculture's dead rip
it's a good record
not sooooooooo good, not a AOTY kind of.
Heard maybe 10 or 11 of them
Glad they put the Manics up high, great album.
I'm not annoyed I've not heard most of it, I don't have the mentality to listen to that much. One of my favourites this year was Benjamin Shaw's second album but that barely got covered by the press in the first place.
'It's easy to construe this music as conjuring post-apocalyptic apparitions'
I'm waiting for their list of Most Pretentious Reviews of 2014. Sunn O))) really seem to bring out the A-level English student in the writers:
'It works because Sunn O))) and Scott Walker share the primitive 'big dream', delineating what psychoanalyst Carl Jung described as "an ancestral heritage of possibilities of representation" where "civilised man is not yet entirely free of the darkness of primeval times".'
It's a crowded field this year!
always confused by comments like this
isn't it possible that artists like Scott Walker and Sunn O))) are just as cultured and highfalutin as well-read music critics?
anyone notice that number 6, grumbling fur
is a record on the site's own record label? must suck knowing that your label prefers 5 other records
They probably thought long and hard about
how high up they could place it without people saying that it is only there because it is on their own label.
Also, didn't East India Youth start out on their label too?
no idea
didnt know the grumbly furs were on their label until after i'd read the list tho.
think it's a bit naff to have them on there, but wouldnt have hurt to have put a note saying "yeah we released this - fuck you, it's still the 6th best record of the year".
pretty sure DiS didn't put the Youthmovies album on their best of the year when it came out. fucking excellent record that
"yeah we released this -
fuck you, it was only alright, so it didn't make our list"
the lad from horsebeach works in picadilly records and that came in their end of list but then again its good so hey ho
Norman Records had Bracken in their top spot,
which they put out on vinyl too.
