and run the jewels
are you alive?!
my lifestyle determined by deathstyle :(
I won't be going to Reading or Leeds (obviously) but that's great news :D
Kicked the guitarist out too didn't they :(
not at a festival (it was great)
so i expect we'll see more shows
As always. And also as always, have a brilliant time. <3 Reading Festival
Pretty much no matter who's playing.
the thought of the campsite twats aside, just shuffling into that packed arena area, dealing with food and drink and trying to see bands can be pretty difficult.
extending it with new stages and 2 entrances (Reading) and thankfully i never have to deal with that campsite.
I haven't been for over 10 years now. How the fuck did that happen?
Catfish and the Bottlemen
Years and Years
Bands we are just too cool for
something rather upsetting about The Mumford Family headlining. Never mind, I'm not a teenager so won't be going
who the fuck are those other bands?
Daphne & Celeste
Mumford & Sons?
today's post-GCSE hormone vats will lap that Mumford shit up
Last year was the first year ever to feature a day on which not one thing appealed to me. Not one.
But I don't think the festival's changed. All that's happened is that I've got older.
I'm sure that if someone who was, say, 10 years older than me were to look at the 2005/2006 lineups, they'd find them equally as uninspiring as I did last year's.
I was more tolerant of shite back then. I remember going to one of the smaller stages to watch the Thrills ffs.
As thats largely whats always made up a pretty big section of the festival's bill. Whereas the whole landfill indie lad-rock scene was big 10 years ago, there tended to be a few decent acts who either inspired or sort of got (unfairly) lumped in with that scene (Cribs, Franz Ferdinand etc), where the current alt-electro-folk-compression-pop (think Bastille etc) thing thats become the mainstream stuff is pretty much all guff and has very little in the way of redeeming qualities. Plus, in general the Kerrang-approved stuff that is popular with "the kids" these days seems to just be overly polished stylised rehashes of things that were popular a decade ago (A Day to Remember, Sleeping With Sirens), and once again universally awful. But actually, having said that, people were probably saying the same things back then, so yeah, might be an age thing.
but also a good number of really great bands. For me this is one of the worst announcements i can remember. But that doesn't change the fact i'm very pleased with 4 of the first 7 acts announced and the early announcements tend to be the mainstream stuff to get the kids excited. What I'm more concerned about is that I've only actually heard of a few of these acts and some of the ones I have heard of don't seem very main stage worth. I mean surely from Catfish down, those bands must be mid-afternoon or other stage acts? which leaves tonnes of room across the weekend.
Regarding last year, the Saturday was a very poor line up imho, but the other 2 days were great. The performers of my top 2 albums from last year both played, along with my favourite album from the year before. I hope they spread out what I want to see this year.
Also, look at the people bemoaning the main acts at Primavera. The consensus seems to be that there are still loads of great acts - I'm so nervous wondering which ones will not be at Porto that I love.
Basically if you don't like mainstream music, you'll probably not like a good number of bands on the big stages at big festivals.
i hope the saturday is utter gash, as I've just found out i might be dragged to a wedding that day :/
and i'll probably never go again but gawd damn, Faith No More headlining one night followed by Radiohead headlining the next (or something) meant I had 2 of the best nights of live music ever.
I remember i met up with a girl from my saturday job beforehand and she'd drank a water flask of vodka and then started throwing up on herself just as Kings of Leon started. I had to buy 2 bottles of evian from the ice cream van to wash it off her then lug her back to her tent to sleep then absolutely fucking peg it back across the campsite for FNM. Missed them playing Midnight Cowboy because of it ¬_¬_¬_¬_¬_¬_¬.
