What does he do in his live sets? Rework stuff from his records or is it something completely different?
didnt know about it until monday, oddly.
first time i saw him was before aurora and he played mainly aurora related/sounding stuff i suppose, but he had two drummers and it was fucking amazing
second time i saw him was after aurora came out, and he was alone, and it was recognisably aurora stuff, drawn out, with bits you could tell were aurora. without drums it was a bit boring to stand up for, so looking forward to sitting down in a church and enjoying the loud
Watching Ben Frost while sitting down? Sounds wrong, you should be dancing/raving
But he is amazing live. I saw him in brussels about 2 months ago (with one drummer and a small appearance of Tim Hecker). Plays/reworks his songs but there is not really a start/end to any of the songs. When I saw him it was mostly A U R O R A and one or two things from by the throat.
brilliant set though, most of material seemed to be pulled from Aurora with additional percussion, courtesy of two drummers laid over the top
Tony Conrad is obviously great, but John Chantler will be playing something special on the church's pipe organ too:
Was really good at Corsica in August and can only think it will be the same or better at the church!
He's got one drummer with him this time (Greg Fox) and I thought it worked slightly better this time than when he played with two back at Village Underground earlier in the year.
It was loud, probably the loudest thing I've ever been to.
Somehow I've missed about 4 opportunities to see him before now, and the couple of clips I've seen of recent shows look mental.
