who were never heard from again.
preferably with a link to a song
but I saw Lethal Bizzle in the Radio 1 tent at Leeds Fes tin 2008. it was absolutely rammed and he was actually good. genuinely thought from that, and the buzz after, he'd become as big as Dizzee Rascal .
then he just started saying dench for a living
He'd already blown up and faded away by that point. And now has miraculously come back #dench
and they were playing a small Barfly at the time...
...support your British indie bands!
Cheese On Bread, 22 Pisterpirrko (?) and Tilly And The Wall. I'm just thinking of small bands that I saw years ago. White Lung who I saw on Monday deserve to massive solely on how brilliant that gig was.
i guess they had a slight trajectory but then spilt.
still listen to that album now and again and love it
Went to see Barringtone once, the band that a few of them started afterwards, pretty good too. Think they're sort of still going.
and everyone else I saw on the BBC introducing stage at Reading 2008
Supporting Hefner at ULU in 1999. They had great songs & stage presence & I was genuinely convinced they were on the cusp of stardom. Never heard from them again. Just looked them up on Youtube and am still amazed they never made it.
who were not all that different (lost the rock elements almost entirely though) but less consistent. I saw them in Bristol not long after, and the people I was with outnumbered everyone else in the venue, including door staff, bar staff and people with the band. Very awkward.
Strength of Strings is still a great song though.
Anglo-Japanese funk band who used to play at the Orange in West Kensington back in the late 90s. Kind of a Japanese version of Parliament - lead singer/guitarist used to dress up as a bumblebee and they used to hand out manga-style comics about their imaginary insect/funk adventures. They were fucking incredible & I became obsessed with them for a while, dragged many reluctant mates along to see them and everyone thought they were amazing. Disappeared not long after & no mention of them anywhere on the internet.
Really thought back in 03 time they would get some proper recognition as they were so much fun live.
Guess My Vitriol could have been.....
back in 1990, on the Only One I Know tour (I think) in Lancaster. Very clear that they were going to be massive.
Carina Round. Saw her live and was CONVINCED she was going to be the next PJ Harvey or something. Didn't happen.
Delays. Saw them live and thought they were going to be the most important British band of the decade. Didn't happen.
Terris. Easy band to deride. But I saw them live and thought, and still think, that they were one of the best, young live bands I've ever seen. Genuinely brilliant. Didn't happen.
Eugene McGuiness. Saw him live and thought he was one of the most talented songwriters I'd ever seen and would be huge. Didn't happen.
Ludes. Saw them live and thought they were the missing link between The Coral and The Libertines and as a result they'd be on the cover of the NME within weeks. Didn't happen.
I really thought tasseomancy, nee ghost bees, would be really popular when I saw them supporting former ghosts, I guess there is still time and the tape that previewed some songs from their forthcoming album was the best thing I heard last year. really think if they were a couple of years earlier they would have made it big, the bands getting big ship has sailed.
Never heard of them before seeing them support Wednesday 13 at a gig years ago...
Proceeded to buy everything they had at the mercy stall, and then the debut album upon release. Getting good reviews etc but then they split up :(
