bands/artists who are famous for two songs and two songs only.
now you do some.
Cotton Eyed Joe, then Pop in an Oak which was essentially exactly the same song.
I don't think I'm alone in that.
from the wikipedia: "the central theme seems to be that the father (Pop) climbed up an oak tree to get away from his wife whose pet skunk he cooked on a grill."
But substitute this for "Pop in an Oak". That is it.
it really is the exact same song.
They had that Animal Army track - not sure it was a hit though.
just a residual hit, like amnesia by chumbawamba
new rule: residual hits don't count in the world of two hit wonders
Fire in the disco and gay bar
'i can't believe you've ignored their techno'
off the top of my head
Three-hit wonder - three number ones with a few years between each.
it wasn't me
that one with Ali G
in the summertime?
Pretty sure Shaggy doesn't count..
are oblivion and tequila, do you mean them ones?
Alice, What's The Matter?
residual hit written all over it
which is full-on fun.
The original is bit more downer Santana rock
and couldn't ever really be a hit.
next you'll be taking a pop at Cornershop
but fill me in and walking away are too well known, i'm afraid, so no
Rewind I class as an Artful Dodger hit.
I'm Walking Away and Rewind, but I guess if other people are saying other things it makes it moot.
they had loads more than just all that she wants and the sign.
cruel summer, dont turn around, always have always will, life is a flower, alejandro
A-ha had loads more hits than Take On Me and The Sun Always Shines but you don't see me pulling you up on that.
i'm on dodgy ground with don mclean and semisonic as well, really.
A-ha had about 5 other top 10 hits but no normal person remembers them. I think that's also the case with The Sign and All That She wants as well.
I mean, Take On Me and The Sun always Shines are about 100 more famous than, say, Train Of Thought or Stay On These Roads so that's all anybody remember A-Ha for. Same with Ace of Base and those two songs.
and i think that has given me a distorted view of ace of base's entire career.
but on that subject:
is a great shout
i assume you mean that christmas one and moonlight shadow
but everyone knows tubular bells as well, even if it's not really technically a hit. i'm gonna have to think of a rule for this.
Your Sex is on Fire and Let's Dance
space oddity and no good (start the dance)
neebeeeneebeeenmbeeeppeb one and Axel F
Don't Stop (Wiggle Wiggle)
Boom Boom Boom
All that she wants
Life is a flower
Barbie Girl & Doctor Jones
good thread, by the way
My Oh My and Cartoon Heroes top 10.
if you're not Korean, I guess.
though Gentlemen seems to be more known for the madrush of people trying to do the first parody.
as a residual hit
which thereby nullifies psy
Gangnam Style + Gentlemen = 2 hits
if anything, PSY will probably be one of those one hit wonders that actually had more than one hit that no one remembers.
was because of gangnam style.
i cant even remember how it goes.
Not our favourite 80s detective programmes.
in the UK top 5 back when the charts meant something
Crocodile shoes and WHAA DUZ SHI PRITEEEAAAYAAAAYYYAANND!
the river will rise again
Windowlicker & Come to Daddy
they deserved to be more than a one-hit wonder band, Boy Meets Girl was a great song
was there one called shake your coconuts?
either way, theyre a one hit wonder
I think every charting single since Use Somebody has been a residual hit.
mollys chambers and that other one and that one about a bucket
Its like they were sort of hits, but Sex On Fire and Use Somebody were actual proper massive hits.
Mr Wendel & Everyday People
One of the first in a long line of utter failures who won a TV singing show.
no normal person would remember Sacred Trust or Shakespeare's (Way With) Words
nice use of brackets though, so i'll let them in. that's a new rule.
Dancing in the Moonlight & Achilles Heel.
Dancing In The Moonlight
Dancing In The Moonlight (that reissue where someone says "here we go" every now and then)
Walk on the Wild Side and Perfect Day
Perfect Day was the B-Side...
people know both those songs, but none of his other ones.
Staying out for the summer
One for each song
Carnival De Paris
Walking on Sunshine
Love Shine a Light
Alex Chilton & Bastards Of Young
Alien Ant Farm:
Movies & Smooth Criminal
if theyre a proper two hit wonder then everyone will know anyway
Kiss From a Rose and Crazy.
That Adamski one is an Adamski one.
Relax and Two Tribes. Their only two 'urgent' hits for sure.
don't think that a 4am post will escape his attention
and i know what you mean
but the power of love is far too much of a hit to discount, unfortunately
may have been a hit (Number 1), but it's no wonder, more like fallout.
but some people think it's a a magical hit in which the secular and the spiritual entwine
cos it's an abomination of a song
Big Fun and Good Life
come at me, badcustard
it's in the rules
C'est La Vie and Rollercoaster
top ten hit for a fourth single from an album, that's mad skills
Drops Of Jupiter and Hey Soul Sister+
Takes some serious skill.
The residual effect is practically nullified.
ms jackson and hey ya
& (to a lesser extent) So Fresh, So Clean and The Whole World.
Everyone and their mother knows it. That's a hit y'all.
that's just hey ya run-off tho. sure so fresh is more famous, even if it only got to 16? idk
banned from radio stations for it's controversial title, didn't hit the mainstream charts in the US or the UK, hasn't really picked up any traction since. fan/hipster favourite =/ hit
as I remember it being on MTV2 quite a lot and Radio One. presumed t had been a big hit.
whatever happened to those guys?
that wasn't that blue song the other day. There were still little blue people in the video though.

what we doin when the
what we doin when the
creep creep creep creep
not to feature drums
What Is Love and Life
if everybody else does though then this is a good one
He also had a hit with a ballad called Miss You. I know this cos i had it on cassette single...i was quite the fan.
i reckon sky by sonique was a residual hit, as i cant remember the first thing about it
being a hit as well

nothing else matters...
It's my life
Girls and Boys
or whatever it was called...
Ace Of Spades
Beat Goes On
Walk Like A Panther
I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
When The Sun Goes Down
this will be a correct answer
It may be because of the current spike in single sales, but Do I Wanna Know is now their second highest selling single.
Eye Of The Tiger
if you have to name the hits it's not one
I wanna be a hippy & Happy birthday.
Born In The USA, Dancing In The Dark
It's My Life
Life What's You Make It

In looking into this further I see Space released their first album in 9 years in March, "Attack of the mutant 50ft kebab".
Anyone hear it? I see it got a 5 star review from popular music site, Music-News.com
Encore une Fois
noah and the whale
katrina and the waves
alien ant farm
all seeing i
i'm going to pitch a two hit wonders double cd novelty cash in album to someone. cd1 and cd2 have exactly the same artists in the same order. who wouldnt want that for christmas.
Even disregarding Fugee-La, you still have Ready or Not (#1), Killing me softly (#1), and No Woman No Cry (#2).
And apparently something off the When We Were Kings OST (great movie BTW) made it to #3 in the UK. Man you poms really loved the old fugees hey?
is a residual hit. not what theyre remembered for by the general population at large.
sweet home alabama
See Emily Play
Another Brick In The Wall
2 hits, 1 guest spot on a ke$ha track then disappeared forever

Dirty old town
Fairytale of New York

And for the record, Gino > Come On Eileen
that Erasure cover
Teenage Dirtbag is an absolutely awful song.
there was also this terrible terrible thing, which got to 22 and is surely a textbook residual
as I hate Mr Wacky Superfluous Bongo Man from Wheatus.
Cornflake girl & that dancey one
breathe and stop
