Getting bored of waiting now.
Really need them to play.
blame ATP, why not
...check the Wednesday thread :)
It had better not be as a support with Pianos Become Teeth or whoever, because I'm not in the country then :(
I hope it's a headline tour of sweatboxes anyway, though would obvs go and see them supporting someone. Would think that given the press The Hotelier are more likely to be playing their own shows, word of mouth is doing that record a lot of favours I think.
Also, when I read Pianos Become Teeth above I thought it was a play on Cymbals Eat Guitars. Would deffo go to that show! get Cloud Nothing's in there as well if I'm curating a totally fictional gig, why not?
invite them to guest host AQOS to soften them up
but basically saying PLEASE PLAY THE UK thanks x
and they said "next year for sureeee" (sic)
HypE! I posted it in the emo thread but it got lost in a sea of tears.
they're supporting Pianos Become The Teeth in the EU mainland but not the UK. Grump.
(because 1. I'm on holiday then and 2. I want a proper headline show)
in Forest Hill, South London
Loving them so much right now.
their lastfm shows TWO European festivals.
THEY ARE ANNOUNCING A FULL EUROPEAN TOUR TOMORROWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
PEN THE CURTAINS
to receive their pleasant sound
make you CRINGE INSIDE YOURSELF
and indeed hoo.
Joiners and Borderline, it's ON! (and Primavera)
I'm so excited. I can't wait for that knee-buckling full band in Intro...
for the Borderline
wouldn't have believed it if you'd told me
(Also you can buy a poster which I will be doing on Monday)
but a leeds specific or full tour not a date i'm not going to hmph
I'll have a look to see if they're full tour ones and get a few if so
+ pre-drinks and that. Come!
going to take the Friday off and bounce around like a moron
Shame they're not playing together then :(
GET READY TO OPEN DEM MOTHERFUCKIN CURTAINS BITCHEZZZ!!!
and London date clashes with Swans at the Roundhouse. Shit luck.
i had a dream i saw The Hotelier live last night and they were dreadful. they only played four songs and between each song they went off-stage for five minutes. by the end they were only me, this guy daryn who i met last night and some irish girl i don't think exists in real life watching. i climbed onto the stage to shout at them for being rubbish and the singer threw me off, but then he felt guilty so he gave the three of us a vodka and coke and a pack of crisps.
i've just realised they were playing Joyce Manor songs bar the first song too. :/
If I could favourite this post then I would, a hundred times.
This pleases me greatly
I don't expect they'll sell out immediately obvs but y'all should probably be ready.
anyone with natwest mobile banking want to buy me a ticket and PM me their phone number and I'll get my PA to wire the funds to you?
figured going onto the venues website was worth a try :)
i had the event open at 10am :/
will get to see them at primavera but gutted I cant join DiS Crew for the London gig
There's obviously the demand ha.
Sold out already!?
Literally went from not on sale yet to sold out within a minute. Had the page open and was refreshing and everything. :(
the songkick link doesn't work but going direct through the mamalive/borderline site works fine, must be a different batch of tickets. just got one.
you need to set up facebook so you can be cc'ed into gig chats
No facebook required.
We can chat about the gig here.
I now need to find cover for that evening as I'm meant to be working late. Might book that Friday off work too.
but figured American Football the week before may require it more.
call in sick
assuming someone here will want the other
So can't book one! Will transfer you money
Glad there will be a strong DiS presence after all!
may have a spare.
Can you this my post if you'll be at the London show?
it's on a Friday
can't hold much more than 100 people
i've never been. Can't wait to tear the building down!
so anyone who goes is also going to my birthday celebration which means I'm dead popular.
is it dreadful??
have you seen the video of them playing the whole album tho on youtube?
Not on Spotify, not sure you can actually get hold of it apart from streaming from Bandcamp which I can't be arsed with (at the moment).
And nope, not seen that YouTubez. Is it good?
It's fine, not massively different from Home... from what I remember.
I posted it on Harriet's wall if you want to watch it, or searching 'Hotelier full album live' on Youtube will find it
a bit more of the punky end of their sound, and with (perhaps) fewer shout along moments, but still pretty solid.
Always had a great time there.
Gets very warm and sticky for sold-out gigs. 300 capacity, but as long as you're not stuck at the back or behind a pillar you'll be OK. Note that it's also used for cheesy club nights, so there will be an early curfew (10:30 PM).
it's ridiculously intimate
We can discuss closer to the date.
It's a free gig so there's no tickets, just turn up
who don't actually exist.
still tempted to go to kingston as well...
released in Feb 2014, i think i only got round to it in November or December
Didn't even realise it/they were a thing, or catch wind during year-end listomania.
They tap into nostalgia but once they've got to you via that route it's actually a really grown up album lyrically combined with being catchy as fuck. Lot's of really unexpected depth to it but if you baulk at the emo bit they'll do nothing for you.
just find them kinda dull
haven't bought one at a gig for years, think i'm going to
is now on Spotify!
my brother's just moved out to Muswell Hill so not sure I'll be able to get out there after the gig. I'll buy you a LDN priced pint
Just get on the northern line, get off at Highgate, or the 134 bus. Ain't even no effort.
i just assume anywhere without a tube station is some sort of hinterland
they have "KINGSTON" splashed all over them.
I still bought one (£1).
Is "Your deep rest" a play on words for "you're depressed"
Doughnut Bee Down
Are You Sue WeSideall?
Face value, message me if you fancy them!
Really interested in these tickets if they're still available...?
Please drop me an email on email@example.com
Classic emo. Thought this sort of thing had died out.
3 weeks if you're also doing Kingston!!!!!!!
Am I still having YOUR spare? If not hi Jordan u ok hun?
if so we'll just do money/tickets then yeah?
that's good, that.
super skint so had to book a megabus.
getting in to Victoria at 5ish so if anyone wants to start drink immediately after work PM me
In the Montague Pyke, obvs.
a bit frustratingly, We chose to go to Southampton because didn't want to have work the next day, but now have Wed to Fri off next week anyway, so could have gone to The Borderline. oh well.
just shut up until after the Borderline show, yeah? Cheers.
in case any of you fancied stalking
Where bounce, hun?
WORK IN SELF
(WOOOOAH OH OHHH OH OOOOH OOOOOH)
Emperor X is supporting for the whole tour by the looks of it. He's cool and deserves your attention, sounds a bit like early Mountain Goats. That is all.
how long did they play?
they were so so so so good
played all of Home, Like Noplace Is There apart from The scope of all this rebuilding, plus 3-4 from the other one
(£15/£25), plus vinyl and that
I spoke to yer man Christian afterwards and discovered that he's only 23. insania. also. said they were going to play a longer set at the borderline, which bodes very, very well.
did they have Never Goes Out on vinyl? got the other one last year.
gonna buy it next week I think
do you have any idea what the stage times were? trying to work out logistics for tonight.
did you see any of the supports? I'd like to see Happy Accidents, but i reckon I'll still be eating my burger.
caught 20 minutes or so of him (Emperor X), was good.
stage times were 8.30 and 9.30.
just noticed that the doors are at 7:30. with 4 bands. i bet they only play like 9 songs tonight
3rd band 9.30-10
2nd band 8.45-9.15
1st band 8-8.30
or something? tbh the first 2 will probably play for like 20 mins each. i wouldn't worry tbh.
maybe they can start at 19:45 too. who knows.
did they have the posters pners?
don't even care
just plain blue pullover with small stripes across the middle, then "the hotelier", similar tees too
gonna have to find me some extra wall space (any idea how much they were?)
they were A2 I think (deffo bigger than A3 anyway), I reckon £5 or £10?
So tempted, but bought a house this week already...
everyone who likes Hotelier should see them 2.
wasn't into it tbh
I'm frustrated i couldn't fit them into my gig schedule.
Introduction to the album and Dendron
really hope wiggy didn't see
anyone have any burning questions they'd like me to ask?
WERE THE AMAZING??
OK, we have 2 more songs, and few of us were like, yo, you've got half an hour left. Keep playing.
Sophia also answered some questions they had for the audience.
They were, of course, utterly top notch.
so was Emperor X.
you guys should deffo come to the Borderline plz
I appear to have 3 tickets for sale for the 21st. Any takers, pass the word on etc?
If Bergkamp has already sold his, I'd like 2 but I need to know their situation first.
I'll PM you his details.
Do you still have any left? I'd be after two tix!
Ps. Commiserations on not being able to attend
or are you just teasing, person commenting above?
i think that was a joke from a discussion on the Social board about whether Kingston is or isn't in London. They only have one upcoming gig in London.
check ur pms m8
I'mma be real sad. (Second) best one on that album
but they said they'd do a longer set this week so I reckon the entire album might be possible PLEASE
so it could be that song that he is learning. idk.
Really is the worst play on words of all time? Please. It's important
there's no way that's a coincidence.
Now they're ruined for me...
because no one's heard of them.
Or have I got excited again for nothing :(
First time poster and sometime lurker here - would y'all mind if I tagged along to whatever pre-gig meet-up is taking place on Thursday? For some reason none of my friends understand how great this band is, so I'll be going solo, and gigs are always better with company!
Come drink with us!
the more the merrier I reckon
Hey you with the spare tickets!!
(cookieheart + bergkamp)
Reply to those on here who want your spares, yo!
but to everyone else, I sold mine yesterday unfortunately :(
I am deep rest :(
and sorry you're missing out :(
but if it's any consolation you've made two other humans very happy :)
It was pretty good. I also had a dream about being in a big budget porn film too. That was better.
the sky went a bit like Independence Day before the asteroid was visible. dunno what that means.
there are a few floating about on the FB events page:
just seen CH tweeted about those tickets on Friday and got a fair bit of response. This is looking pretty unlikely.
I've got a tab open on Twitter to nab any tickets I see, plus that FB page (as sometimes people don't read the fucking messages, they just post if they have some)
if you do see any, please snap them and let em know.
as the one in Kingston (I think?)
+ Life in Drag after Wildflowers
Bodes well for the promise of "a longer set" + The Scope Of All This Rebuilding on Thursday..........
(you know, minus the chatty bit on the record, just went straight into it)
at least I *think* it was shortened, they might have just played it really fast
looks like we'll be sticking around in London until a little later on Thursday :D
Who wants it?
if either of you could help my mate out would be greatly appreciated!
Think I've got a spare too
Think I might need one for my sister ...
i was like I BET I'M OLDER THAN YOU, WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY OLDER HOW OLD ARE YOU
WHAT NO I'M NEARLY THIRTY AHAHAHAHA
my dreams of being a footballer and in a band are fading because of my age now, as well as the obvious lack of natural talent, training & dedication :(
It feels old when you're 23, but it isn't. So go for it!
Will almost certainly run late and end up with an arrival time where everyone will be pissed enough for me to bin it off and go straight to the venue
is there only one support?
the hotelier will only play for an hour maximum so they won't be on much earlier than 9.30pm
Do I really care about the support? I mean I'm sure they're fine and that but I've literally never heard them.
Will probably hit chipotle or icco first and then get to Spoons for 6:45/7.
How will I spot you all?
if he's the only support i am probably not that bothered about being there early
hopefully we'll have the stage times anyway
what i mean is: he was good, but not good enough for me to want to a) see again and b) give up cheap pub time before what will probably be the gig on the year.
just before they started, a guy with an american voice pointed at my tshirt and said "hey man, nice tshirt, they're like one of my favourite bands", i said thanks and then he got on stage and plugged in a guitar
as it got washed yesterday i could wear it again tomorrow, what do you guys reckon?
i finish work at 5 tomorrow, will take me half an hour to talk to The Montagu Pyke
HASHTAG BLOODY EXCITED
I'm so excited I can't work.
I'm a bit worried my spin class this evening might mean I can't walk tomorrow, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Gym tonight + 4 hours sitting on a coach tomorrow = walking like a granddad
And got them to join our sikth fan club
was a human pyramid.
Prepare your voices lads. The crowd at Kingston was the most sing-along crowds I've seen.
Support - 7.30pm
The Hotelier - 8.45pm
Curfew - 10.30
Going to finish WELL early then.
So annoying the Central Line doesn't stop at TCR at the moment, that's gonna waste at least 10 mins of Spoons time.
oh I forgot that
might just bus from waterloo
you've not caught my INCESSANT posts on here / twitter / fb:
pre-drinks(/bants) @ the montague pyke from 5.30/6ish
Gonna have a Spoons tea!
and are planning on playing the other record in its entirety too??
and I am excited to go to it
"We are going to play the longest set we've ever played as a band tonight."
I'm going to cry again
This is not a good thing, bands play to long as it is, especially for a venue as difficult to leave as the borderline
their standard set is 45-50 minutes
would be excellent if they played even 5 minutes longer
Nah 45 minutes is a perfect set time
Would've happily watched another 30.
imagine moaning at a band playing for longer than 45 minutes
Imagine moaning about someone else thinking 45 minutes is a pretty appropriate set time
I have one spare, face value, if anyone is still looking.
We'll definitely be able to find a buyer
will bring it along if I dont shift it this afternoon. I know what PN looks like so can find y'all
DM me your profile link and I can send them on to you, if you like.
Load of work dumped on me last minute. Unlikely to be able to make this :( :(
Anyone want two tickets for £20?
Slim chance I can make it but I don't want them to go to waste. What are the stage times?
I'll try. Do want.
WORK SHIFT FINISHED
Would have been much better if about 20 minutes shorter
Really dull gig. Everyone talking through the show. Too many pedestrian songs. Band didn't seem too up for it. Was expecting lots of sing a longs but remarkably few. Over hyped band? They definitely have a few good songs but I would have preferred 30 minutes of killer thank 70 minutes of filler
were you even at the same gig bro?
in any case THEY WERE SO GOOD I don't even care
if I hadn't had gone with you lot and it been such an event I might have felt the same. I do think 45 minutes is the optimum set length for stuff like that.
Imagine someone not liking the hotelier quite as much as you do
Yeah they definitely diluted their set with the first album stuff
So so good :D
Good night, that
I'd totally forgotten that. <3
we bumped into him after hoteliers set and thought he was being rude because he didn't stop to chat but then he got onstage to start hoteliers encore so fair enough
I like Chad.
Good to meet y'all who I hadn't met before and good to see you again those that I had.
Dendron was amazing right?
Stagediving bellend literally dived directly into my forehead before landing directly on Sophia (I think it was?). What a knobhead. My head is sore and not for the same reasons as most of you!
but then noticed she was really young and had blue hair and sort of forgave her as she's clearly just a kid who got overexcited. stagediving/crowdsurfing is the absolute worse though.
Was a dude old enough to know better in my case! (But yeah, it's forgivable when it's just obvious overzealousness and excitement)
Alpha bastard man next to me started shouting "You're so punk" at the band after they tried to get everyone to calm down a bit. Big man on campus :D
Thanks for being very welcoming to a newbie - you folks are lovely.
I DID eat 2 microwave sticky toffee puddings when I got home though. Also I just woke up.
is shouting oceansize lyrics at you :)
THE WAAATER AND OIL, UUUUNFAAAAMIIIIIILIAAAAAR
It's outrageously good.
back in May has forced me to shelve it for now. it's still great though. Either way I've got the new Wonder Years album to rinse at the moment.
but it's properly, properly great. easilly one of my favourites of the year.
make of that what you will
Simple and sincere but exciting enough to assume this new record will rival Home Like Noplace.
Passable but nothing to be excited about
Whys this thread got so many replies
Monday 09 May 2016
Scala, London, UK
(Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham)
Who's in for The Hotelier Day Two: The Bloodening?
*plus dates for
i will be going to Manchester
are Into It Over It much cop?
picked mildly mathy acoustic pop indie emo. he's also in Their They're Their with Mike Kinsella
shite name though.
and my pre-Scala pub of choice is normally the King Charles I which won't fit the entire internet in :(
WHAT WILL WE DO?
Deceptively large, and fairly decent.
The King Charles is lovely but yeah about the size of a cupboard. I like the Queen's Head on Acton St but that's not massive either.
The one andybongo mentioned is prob a good shout. Is it the Parcel Yard or another one?
Into It. Over It.
Think I'll be having a slice of that action.
Not up for it if they're just supporting some other chumps
Probably no different to any other Hotelier show. Plus Evan Weiss is good.
I do like beer
bodega gigs have a 10pm curfew and the last train is at 11something.
And might drive to/from leeds
that app is amazing.
Nottingham is same night as eagulls. plus brudenell has sierra Nevada.
i've got a ticket, naturally
niki, we'll have (just) seen them three times in a year. wouldn't have expected that back when this thread started eh?
Look forward to seeing you again, bro! Sikth t-shirts?
was chatting to a pal last night and I basically said that there was a time (like 18 months ago when I started this thread) when we were all like THEY'LL NEVER PLAY and then eventually they did, and now they're touring AGAIN, and will it be as good? etc etc
obvs it will still be incredible but I hope it won't dilute the magic
probably might book the tuesday off work
the former for the peeps and the latter for the lovliness.
It's just not gonna be as good as last year and I mostly cba
I just fire up the Instagram video upthread that someone took of everyone singing along, it's amazing.
and for You Slut too
Can't really be arsed watching Flood of Red or Maybeshewill, I'm purely there for You Slut. What a band!
Very interested what people will make of it. Home, Like Noplace was as close to a 10 as this sort of music gets for me.
(this and Goodness Pt 1 now on Spotify too)
will post here when it's up (next couple of days).
I'm very much enjoying the new record, for whatever that's worth.
"I think with ‘Goodness‘ I was trying to make an anti-nostalgia record; one that exists fully in the present, both as a way to sort of combat my own Peter Pan complex and to fight against my own ability to glorify my younger times while not necessarily appreciating where I am now."
Anyone after a ticket? Failing that can anyone try and motivate me for it?
and you'll get to see some nice DiSer faces if you like?
But on the other hand, I'm running a half marathon on Sunday and have Monday off so I'll have to schlep all the way in for it and my legs will hurt. Will probs still come though but I'll whinge about it.
Mine haven't arrived.
good question, I can't remember for sure, but I've a feeling they arrived a few weeks back.
I ordered via Songkick so thought it was an e-ticket but I've just checked and it says it will be posted, hasn't arrived yet...
saying check you're address is correct but had nothing since. I'm just emailed them so I'll see what they say.
so yes they are already on my phone.
Gutted, but got a hectic week and a Monday night trip to London isn't going to help that.
Sadder about missing IIOI tbh.
All my usual pre-Scala places seem not very appropriate (King Charles I, The Queen's Head)/
There's 2 to choose from. Only 5 mins walk.
the only large one i can remember near by is the Euston Flyer (not a 'spoons, Theo) and I've not been there since 2008, so can't say what it's like these days.
The ones in Angel aren't far, although are very dingy - there's rumours of some thunder brewing up on Monday, but it might still be lovely by then.
so I'm not sure. There was one round the back of the of the houses on the south side of Euston road that i went to with a big group of DiSers back in about 2007 before a gig. I think we all sat/stood outside the pub. not sure what it was called.
never been but looks like it's got an outside bit. I reckon it'd do.
dunno why i'm even in this discussion - bye!
cba (or afford it)
I used to really like it when it was the Cross Kings, bit gastro pub now but should be spacious.
The Queen's Head on Acton Street is good but might but a bit small depending on how many of us there are.
and when/where we meeting?
I'm happy either way. will probably only be around for a short while anyway as I need to see Rozwell Kid
Didn't they say doors are 6.30 now?
saying they are now 6.30. Whether they are or not?? So long as they release stage times today it doesn't matter.
got an email from Dice.fm saying they're 7.30pm
I'll be there around 6.30 - 7.00
only heard their last album once
I'll be working in Leeds on Thursday so will be knocking about from 5ish if anyone wants to say hello to me and some friends.
Can I park near Brudenell Social Club?
good nearby pubs?
here are the times
Into It. Over It.
for london that is
And has another room where pints ate dirt cheap
after might be better though - don't get in til 8.
pitza cano pitza cano.
but I'll be able to stick around for a half hour or so, for sure
Theyre just not that exciting
Into it over it are boring
yeah, they have somegood songs, but I wasn't really feeling it. To my mind they had the bill upside down.
the crowd halfed for Into It Over It, definitely the wrong way round
and they played for an hour!
But in some ways I'm grateful for that. If I had to stand through an hour of Into It Over It before The Hotelier I wouldn't of enjoyed them so much.
Into It Over It were very average. All the songs melded into each other, and can't remember anything specific I enjoyed about them. Rozwell Kid were surprisingly good though, and I thought them coming on for Your Deep Rest was funny.
Bunch of absolute penoids in the audience though.
also his air drumming all throughout
i missed Rozwell Kid, only got there at 8. it was SO WARM
haha why was the audience so bad?
No I went to London. Spent most of Into it, Over it chatting with the Rozwell Kids. And yes, the crowed was definitely more sparse after the Hotelier.
Obvs I thought The Hotelier were fantastic.
Who where when?
Into It are on last, so beer after Hotelier?
i'll be in a black work shirt and black work trousers and black work shoes, so should be identifiable.
not many memories
Good looking lad in a white t-shirt. See you later.
tall guy and one in a beanie hat. maybe more. didn't fancy my chances
Really looking forward to it. Think it'll be a 10pm curfew if the Vennart show was anything to go by. Love Into It Over It and Hotelier. Good stuff
Quite good, too much fucking about with off-kilter bullshit in that first track though
let's see how this is then
But still good. 'Sun' is the one.
So far on one listen while doing other stuff, i loved the Jarry bits and some bits sounded like REM, maybe. Probably a good album, eh?
A lot of space and less intensity, but it sounds like that was the goal. Much more of a nice summer record than I'd imagine most people were expecting.
I've already cut out the intro/interludes and now it feels totally like a slightly punk-rock REM album - and that's fine with me. Growing with each listen. Fun.
but really liking the new album
proper nostalgia-trip emo anthem, innit. Can't get enough
Really need to sit down with it. Sounded blooming ace though, and the songs I'd already heard, Goodness part 2 especially, sound amazing
and those twitter quotes in the article of people saying it's disgusting, I bet they wouldn't be saying that if it was a group of 20-something female models.
The American media does seem to have a strange view of nudity, all sorts of violence is fine but a female nipple - outrageous!
That hardly anyone has heard of?
I think it's fucking brilliant obv
has the most over the top pixellation censorship I've ever seen.
... Would have it on a par with No Place...Though now self contained for Good or bad... One of my albums of the year so far...
