Yes, another of those 'is it cool' threads. But is it cool to like them?
Regarding INXS - no it is not 'cool'.
i like inxs cos my mum played them a lot when i was a kid. my mum's cool so yeah.
is still a proper good song. Pretty lukewarm toward the rest of their output.
They were a pretty tight outfit in their day. I got freebies to see them live some time during the 90s, they were way past their prime and I'd never liked them anyway, but I went along as I was lured by the prospect of getting to go backstage afterwards.
They were fucking amazing, just this massive funk beast, a white-hot band playing songs that I'd never liked when I'd heard them on the radio, but suddenly in a live setting they made sense. Hutchence was giving it about 60% effort and still he was fantastic.
Only disappointing thing was backstage afterwards. Wives and kids everywhere, zero supermodels, it was like a suburban beer garden on a Sunday afternoon.
Kick is a stone cold classic and one of the best debut albums of all time.
up there with nevermind in the all time great debuts by an english band
I was alive in the 80s unlike all the teenagers on here so I think I would remember what INXS's debut album is.
...anything from the 80s is really good. After that, avoid. This has the double benefit that they hardly sold any records in The UK prior to Kick so folk are unlikely to be able to judge you one way or another.
Watched Adventureland recently - thought it was fairly mediocre. Best bit was when Don't Change kicked in for the closing credits.
need you tonight is a great track
st vincent and beck covered the whole album need you tonight is from, kick, which is cool i spose
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMERAf3OgZM (not actually listened yet, just knew it existed)
the bside to need you tonight is fucking hilarious porn cheese with his vocals pitchshifted down an octave
that par t one "i'm so crazy" track from 2001 which samples INXS is good
the slightly naff director's cut version of donnie darko opens with INXS instead of echo and the bunnymen, to slightly lesser, but still decent effect
...and the DiSer posting above you.
They were great. Sinead O'Connor supported with the Smiths rhythm section in her band. She was great too.
Listen Like Thieves, The Swing and Shabooh Shoobah are all really good albums. When I bought LLT, The Swing was free with it! Crazy times.
Didn't like Kick (the album that is, the song is the best thing on it).
Yeah, cool man.
...is their best album IMO. Quite underrated.
and can recall Sounds / NME ads from when they were smallish. Like the last "Is it cool" my answer would be a few good tunes, but largely the answer should be 'No'. Aussie Bono? Surprised they didn't have a sales peak after the death of the lead singer though.
but I was very young. Patted Michael on the arm at the second one (Bournemouth International Centre).
When he died I was living with a guy who told a great story about bumping into him on a staircase in a hotel in New York. I subsequently told the friend that I had seen a news report stating that he died from an injury sustained some years previously, when he had been knocked over in New York.
is it cool to like Midnight Oil?
Definitely not. I did used to enjoy a bit of Diesel & Dust bitd.
It was cool being into Kick aged 13.
Not so cool now.
But they had a few good songs and enjoyed themselves. A bit too much in one case.
out of how many released? like who you want.
I'm almost impressed.
