Memories of the Future was so influential to me, it completely changed my overall view of music - listening to it along with Burial, Skream etc. when I was in my first year of uni just blew me away and opened up my mind to dance/electronic music in a way I would've never thought possible.
His way of 'twisting worda outta all recognition' was one of the most powerful, arresting things I'd ever heard - that pitch-shifted, snarling patois on tracks like Backward, Fukkaz... It's just some of the most effecting vocals I've ever heard.
It's so sad that when I found out about his new EP with Kode9 I spent ages googling trying to find any piece of info that would confirm that this meant he was over his illness... I guess this is why I couldn't find anything.
RIP Stephen, you had an immesurable impact on my life and I'm sure there are many, many others who would say the same.
My heart goes to all those who love him.
He really brought a very unique poetic style to MCing, especially in Dubstep's formative years. A perfectly matched vocal to the more dread atmospheric styles of early Burial and Kode9. Had the pleasure of seeing him spit live at a DMZ night. Nothing really comparable. RIP.
I clicked this thinking it was a EP title. This is terrible news, he was so amazing and so an individual voice. Fuck. Big loss for the scene.
Big up The Spaceape. He was a really unique voice and he'll be missed. I knew he was ill but I didn't know just how ill he was, plus he's got a new EP just out like right now with Kode9 so I had hope he was doing ok. Hyperdub have had an awful year with DJ Rashad and now Spaceape gone. It's so sad.
Such sad news, what an incredible vocal presence on some wonderful tracks. Only really heard him for the first time earlier this year, when I was discovering The Bug and Kode9, so had no idea about his illness. RIP
