Why do they bother?
but wouldn't make my top 50
Got tickets to see it in full in November though which I'm pretty hyped for. Wish it was The Ecstatic in full instead though.
Not even the best album by Mos Def
(It's still great though)
Skip quite a few tracks tbh. Has some amazing stand outs though.
Wouldn't say it was 'not bad' or 'nowhere near' the best. It's a fucking great album.
It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
3 Feet High & Rising.
The (very) late 80's was a golden era for Hip Hop. No era since (Wu-Tang aside) really comes close?
but you could stretch that up to 1999 really. Those are the absolute glory days.
Would go '87-'97
With a special mention for 1994
Personally, I think a lot of the best releases from the late 80s are important and influential, but many have dated considerably worse, and there's neither the strength in depth or diversity in sounds that those records paved the way for. That's why my own golden age/renaissance comes a little later.
C'mon man, we haven't got all day, get to it.
How many records are we talking here? FYI I'm a massive fan of your critiques and recommends, particularly the 90's list. Pretty much bottomless knowledge right there!
Dabbing at it when I get a few spare minutes here or there. Got quite a few listed as is. Not all tens or anything, just more or less my favorites. plenty already mentioned in the thread.
thanks for the complement. i bet my list would look a little different if i went through that exercise again.
My top 10's shift kind of constantly. Some crackers in that list though. Used late night tip to test my new amps the other day - my neighbours love me...
might be higher on my list now! buying a new system for my car soon and will def be using to test it out.
You can add
Paid in Full
Straight Outta Compton
Straight Out of the Jungle
Down by The Forces of Nature
Fear of a Black Planet
Step in the Arena
Low End Theory
Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde
Although I've never been a big fan of Fear Of A Black Planet. It's a tad too bloated for me and too musical if that makes sense. PE were better when they hit hard. I do love Welcome To The Terrordome though.
The Iceberg to that list...
what you are ranking it ahead of! show your work
I just like the album.
it's just that, well, there is no Snoop album named Doggytime.
Doggystyle tho, def top ten.
I like Doggystyle too, but it's not as good IMHO.
Skillmatic, more like!
Sorry, been reading the school days threads.
