Bearing in mind that they didn't write their songs.
Everyone likes Daydream Believer. They probably have some forgotten gem of an album it is cool to like, released in the early 70s. Just a guess.
Not sure whether or not to include that song (and a few others) on this 60s playlist I'm making. Worried it might de-cool the list a bit.
released 68, soundtrack to head (film)
is a great album and a really weird film. definitely has (or should have) some 'cult' appeal
some good tunes on it as well
Bit rockist m8.
My mum thinks they're aces
you hsouldn't just like music cuz it's cool or not, you just like what you like jeez #yolo
Is it cool to like Nickelback?
So yes it is m8.
The thing with manufactured bands / artists is that the really great ones get the cream of the musical crop to record so who loses? If such hilariously rockist notions as "they didn't write their own songs" are a problem...well, they did in the end. Everybody wins!
The world would be a poorer place without The Monkees.
nobody would ever have ended up named Zowie Bowie so there's that.
which has a really really good chapter about The Monkee's struggles with their own authenticity in the final few years of the band. Very interesting, and the futility of it all is quite sad.
Also they had some great songs and some crap. Valleri is my favourite.
