Recording thread

Is there a recording thread to talk about recording (home, field or studio)?

Just bought a bunch of stuff for playing around with at home (allowing me to finally ditch my cassette 4-track):
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
Se X1R ribbon mic
Loads of cheap percussion

  • What are you using/planning to use in the way of software?

  • I use Reaper as that's what I use at the studio and it's so easy and intuitive. I've used PT, Logic, Cubase and Nuendo in the past and Reaper is definitely the best for me for so many reasons. Editing is a dream. I've been using Ableton a bit for the virtual instruments and then "Freezing" everything as .wavs and dumping them into Reaper to mix and manipulate.

Used the new gear for the first time yesterday and it's really. Impressed by how quiet the Scarlett is and how much of the top-end I can boost on the SE X1R without it getting hissy. The Scarlett plugins that come bundled with the interface are actually okay too, compressor seems nice and the interface is good, same goes for the reverb. The EQ's not very user friendly.
