Liars at Village Underground...
Thanks to Jabberwocky cancelling I am now on a quest to recreate the line-up over dozens of venues and nights and conveniently Liars are lending a helping hand by playing London:

One of my preferred venues too - possibly even better than The Excel Centre*
[*insert hand-driers reference here]
Tidy!
should be, no paper towels = less waste
I've been to Village Underground loads of times...
...and have very little memory of the drying facilities. The loos there are a portacabin type affair right? Probably just pissed and didn't even bother to wash tbh tbf.
don't even bother having soap
it's the worst thing about the place (other than the bar prices)
Bought my tickets though
Last couple of times I have been
there was a very lovely lady attendant in the ladies. Maximum laughs for those types of situations. You gents are missing out.
Don't think they have hand driers but I'm gonna go anyway!
Never seen anyone in the gents
Didn't have any opportunity to wash my hands, top up on some eau de cologne or engage in shabs and bants. I feel like I'm missing out.
Just grabbed 4 tickets
Super excited about this already. Is it an all-nighter type affair? Never been to VU...
VU is one of those big railway arch type places
but I've found it sounds better in there than it deserves to. Bar prices are £4 for a 330ml can of Hobo beer amongst other things.
Didn't realise this was a club night, that's even better.
What does it being a club night actually mean?
That there's a late DJ after the band or more than that?
i don't know
but i would like to know
Hmm...
...not much information on Village Underground site or Resident Advisor. This is literally worse than the Jabberwocky fiasco.
Seriously though, I assume that this means that they have got the venue until late and are going to fill the time accordingly depending on who they can get involved. Do Liars DJ themselves as well as play live?
got an email updating my recent order for ILLUMINATIONS
thought maybe my account had been hacked. Then realise that made no sense whatsoever. So a quick search turns out that this show is now part of the Illuminations series. More details:
"This show is part of a week-long series of uniquely curated music, film and arts events, titled Illuminations
Liars have been feeding off fear for their entire career. Sometimes, they intentionally trap themselves within it, like on their last record, 2012's WIXIW, where internal anxieties were laboured over and rendered into a beautifully crafted synthetic inertia that coursed through an almost biological soundscape. But other times, the band uses fear to fuel their wild dance. Where WIXIW was the sound of a band in an ambiguous, fragile in-between state, Mess is Liars with their balls out – an angry, ecstatic, primal burst of ritualistic electronics that sacrifices self persecution for potent, purposeful abandon.
This London Village Underground show is set to be a Liars club-night event, running from 8pm-late, with specially chosen guests and DJs to be announced. "

Sound in VU is great.
Saw Anna von Hausswolf there and it was about 1000% better than the record.

It's a Saturday
have a lovely lie in on the morning and you'll be fine.
Maybe bring a blanket in case you get sleepy during the night.
What time does it even get dark these days?
too early Pentago, that's when
too early
Any spare tickets?
was just listening to Mess and wondering why they aren't doing any Irish gigs
then discovered they played Dublin 3 nights ago.
FUCKSAKE.
Sounds good...
...you gonna go?
you know i think i might
I'm going tomorrow
Let us know how they were...
they looked different and didn't play any songs i recognised
also they had a different band name and played heavy metal.
mixed feelings about the gig.
This has got me...
...even more psyched about tomorrow's show!
I have one spare ticket for this
It's an e-ticket so anyone that wanted it would have to meet me there. Think I'm probably going to get there for Luke Abbot, so around 10ish. Anyone interested, drop me a PM.
No one?
Might have to stick a separate thread on the SOCIAL board at this rate.
saw them in madrid on wednesday
they were great, anyone going's in for a treat.
Did you see Icarus-Smicarus there?
he's seeing them in Madrid tonight I think
