do you prefer DIGABLE PLANETS or SHABAZZ PALACES?

shrewbie [Edit] [Delete] 14 replies 12:27, 19 August '14

Digable Planets were pretty much perfect i think. Shabazz Palaces are good too but i've not listened to them so much.

      • I'd say start with the 1st album then go to Blowout Comb

altho apples n oranges cos there was only two releases and they are both awesome.

I think I like them both, but Digable definitely sounds kinda sepia tinted and dated these days in that good golden age of afro centric hip hop style.

    • Feel like its aged a little better than SOME tribe called quest & de la soul

  • Digable Planets

cos I'm old school. Shabazz is great too though

  • Like them both a lot

Reachin' (A New Refutation of Time and Space) has aged really well. Production is so good.

  • Would not want to decide since they are very different.

DP are more immediately listenable and probably have had more of an impact on my music taste but SB are pretty singular in what they are bringing to the hip hop landscape. Production and sound design is superb for both acts. Reachin still sounds awesome.

    • Actually, part of what I admire about SB is how different a project it is.

Leading another group, 2 decades on, that's practically incomparable and still cutting edge is some rare shit in any genre.

      • For sure.

And doing it without shaking a cane or coming off like an old-head try hard is a feat in itself.

  • Not listened to much Digable Planets

but I like both Shabazz Palaces albyooms. Both growers, but both have really great moments that are immediate, too.
