QUICK BEFORE THEY ALL GO!
Do you need some sort of proof that you have friends and / or family?
(I think they're *meant* for friends and family of the company AXS. But as we all know with these things, they probs never actually check. And if they do, you've lost £2.50 and we can all decamp to a pub and sing Arcade Fire songs.)
Think they're sending individual tickets that you print out so can't imagine they'd be stopping everyone and asking them for proof of who they know or whatever.
"okay having managed to speak with someone, you DO NOT need the person who works for AXS to be with you or any of their ID. I even pointed out to them that they were the tickets that were £2.50 each and the person's reply was you can give those tickets to anyone you do not need the person to go in with you. Only the person who has made the online ticket booking at the time. Hope this helps."
"THE £2.50 TICKETS ARE VALID & YOU DO NOT NEED A MEMBER OF STAFF TO ENTER"
(Otherwise I'd totally be all over it.)
It's going to be completely great.
I realise you don't know me but still, exciting stuff! It was great last time I went, although it did run out of beer on the Saturday
Worth a shot, innit.
Just got 4 Arcade Fire ones. The digital tickets will be emailed separately
2 tickets booked
See you there!!!
this will be hilarious if it works. Can't do arcade fire but got tickets to Neil Young / The National. Cheers!
...now just need to source a babysitter.
Already going to Sabbath, but got four extras as some friends of mine wanted to go and take their metal-as-fuck kids (aged 8 and 10) but it was too expensive for them. I am going to be like a rock Santa to those guys.
but bought a Sabbath ticket anyway
Maybe they've struggled to sell tickets so are now trying to subtly give them away without annoying those who paid full price?
And Arcade Fire ones for me, but realised I have band practice. No Arcade Fire for me.
Probably gonna stay in and watch Glastonbury stuff tonight. Easy weekend.
SABBATH/SOUNDGARDEN/FAITH NO MORE - BOOM!
MCBUSTED/BACKSTREETBOYS/WHEATUS - boom.
got a stag do on the Neil Young day, else I'd've done that too
What you up to?
I think camping out over night on the Friday then heading into Oxford and over to London on the Saturday. you?
Plus pizza/beer/dancing like a twat natch...
But I'd already paid £60 for Neil Young so I'm going anyway
but i'll probably have had enough of Hyde Park sound by then...
at this last year for free.
Now this year I'm going to see Neil Young and Black Sabbath and Soundgarden and Motorhead, for £5. genuinely considered paying full price for both of those as well. cant see them selling any full price tickets if they bother to do these gigs again next year. still, fucking psyched to see a load of bands i wasnt sure i'd ever see for fuck all
I remember when it was Wireless in Hyde Park, tickets for the Strokes day were being given away for free the week before and loadsa people on here were getting tickets. Think I met up with a young Meths there too, which was worth the ticket price (free, remember) alone.
because Elton John had to pull out at the last minute. Still pretty crazy.
2006 I think, with Depeche Mode.
some friends were playing lower on the bill and gave me guestlist, which i then had to pay a £10 charity donation to get in, when everyone else was proper free.
different organisers though, fwiw, afaik (cos wireless moved elsewhere, assume it wasnt just a name change)
I saw meths last weekend. He's old now.
I live in that London now don't I. If these Sabbath tickets don't get refunded lets have a beer and a cuddle.
getting older, that's typical meths!
Yes: I'll try and arrange a welcoming party with Sadpunk.
propping up the bar as I walk in the door
Then this is amazing!
I accept NO responsibility if this goes tits up and doesn't work, okay?
i know where you live
any beer in the form of thanks would be very nice.
Even if we just see Wild Beasts and Faith No More it'll still possibly be the best £10 ever spent!
For shame guys
most excited about seeing Wheatus again.
4 tickets for Black Sabbath, 2 for Neil Young (couldn't get any more), friend is booking for Arcade Fire.
This so makes up for not being at Glastonbury
Got a few more.
Thanks for the heads up, got 4 for arcade fire. Although I have to admit am pretty unsure this is gonna work. Guess we can try to bullshit it at the gate.
That hotukdeals link, someone rang the firm up and asked how it'd work and if the tickets would be valid? Surely giving the game away a little bit? :S
soundgarden/fnm/sabbath 'tickets' purchased.
it's for AEG employees only and anyone booking without an AEG address will have their order cancelled/refunded.
I think if they don't have the passwords/system in place to keep it employees only they should honour all purchases. I got 4 for Arcade Fire without having to wilfully ignore anything about being an employee, as far as I'm concerned that's a legitimate purchase. Just not sure that's how it's going to play out, I'm sure they have the right in the small print to refund anyone they like and refuse tickets.
it may be the case that they cap the number of tickets on a sort of first come first serve, so that the peeps that got in there early will get them and the rest will get refunds. who knows.
If you book a ticket using some kind of weird staff/friends and family link then you're taking a chance tbh and I said that in my second post.
Best case: you get to see some bands for £2.50
Worst case: the ticket weren't meant for you, you get a refund (probably) and you go to the pub.
As doors open at 3.30 for the Arcade Fire day I'm sure some people with these tickets will be heading in then and we'll all find out if they're legit.
Is anyone else a TINY BIT worried they'll be hit with a huge bill for what the tickets are supposed to be?
They can't say £2.50 then go oh it was meant to be £240 and take the money
thank god I'm a mod so when this inevitably doesn't happen I can erase all traces of it ever being a thing.
cos sean's shared the thread on there :)
That little ticker thing up top shows 31 Facebook shares.
Good job non of you know what I look li.... oh SHIT.
I'm going for lunch.
like the devil himself came up with that riff
Took a punt, only a tenner, if they bin them oh well.
Given that they're offering 2 for 1 on arcade fire already I reckon they'll honour them. These hyde park gigs always sell terribly. Last year my entire company of about 800 people got free tickets
Seemingly too late now all as it says unavailable.
Cheers, got arcade fire ones.
No Neil or black sabbath ones left. Still some tom Jones left if you fancy that
seems fair tbh
Matching to an email address is an incredibly data and work intensive way of validating tickets - a passworded site takes minutes for a half decent dev
Also plenty of offers, and they're spannering outdoor ads generally = poor sales.
Plus the first people found it as it was being advertised on facebook on RHS ads?
All v weird. Anyway, easy come, easy go. Worst case scenario, I have a tenner refunded. Devastating
theyve "leaked" this on purpose as viral marketing, and will release tickets at, say, £20 each for all the days and people will go "fuck it, still an amazing deal"
Then try to look decent by honouring them, so as not to annoy ppl like me who've paid £60 for Neil Young already
My friends who bought full price Sabbath tickets are annoyed at the cheap tickets, even though this means that they have a much bigger crew of people going.
It said "staff" next to the tickets, but there was nothing on the page or in the T+Cs to say that you *had* to be an employee to buy these.
Which suggests that this is not quite true:
"Lady on the phone said it was a URL circulated internally within AEG by email but has leaked & spread online, they're trying to contain it."
if it somehow turns out to be legit, and anyone has any spares for Neil Young / Arcade Fire, I would be massively, massively grateful
could do worse than just fucking along for that
in a brazen bull right now
It would have been very easy for them to create a secret ticket link though, right? It's their own stupid fault really.
i always love it when shit like this happens at my work. all very exciting
it says "something" about how little we value music and how no-one wants to pay for anything, but I'm not sure what exactly.
Pretty sure this secret staff-only link will result in a lot of disappointment when people arrive and discover they can't get in.
that we dont want to pay a days wages for a day of music with shitty sound means we dont value music?
and no, no one will end up going to the show and being disappointed
(could still be disappointed cos the arcade fire are bell ends)
not that weird.
Bands play shows. Tickets very expensive. Lots of people don't buy tickets. Suddenly tickets seem to be available at much reduced prices. People now buy tickets.
i never knew you had an economics doctorate
People don't want to pay £60 to watch bands with Hyde Park's awful awful sound surrounded by bellends those gigs attract. They've been throwing away tickets for these gigs since 2006
^didn't get tickets
Is anyone able to confirm their validity? If its not valid then I'll go for a refund. I've got one for a friend who would be travelling down for a couple of hours
but dont ask for a refund until you know exactly what's going on
yeah I don't mind taking a punt on some £5 tickets, would rather they were confirmed before dropping £100 on train fares
they'll let me in, right?
but I got mine straight away. Can't see anything in the Ts&Cs. If they've sold thousand of these would they really turn all of those away?
I just seem to have a confirmation email...
Just the confirmation so far...
posting it publically and phoning up AXS isn't the best way to go hmm? Keeping the circle smaller stops shit like this happening and tickets being cancelled.
I think I've just ripped you off, can you confirm that's ok? Cheers"
does anyone from AXS reading this want to be my friend
I asked first and I'm cooler than you
it might just be indigestion
Literally everything so far is 'apparently' and 'assume'. Everyone just cool it and wait for an official announcement, and if there isn't one just turn up and see what happens. It's £2.50 ffs.
While **no official decision has been made** on what will happen with the £2.50 tickets, **AXS advises** that "anyone who hasn't purchased from a work email address that isn't associated with the company will have them cancelled".
"I would **assume** they'd be cancelled. In **10 days** (Arcade Fire is in 6 days)' time if you've still got them, and you've not been notified, they **might** be good," an AXS manager said.
**AEG Live (owners of AXS, who have apparently commented) has not commented.**
Refunds, AXS advises, will be automatically disbursed, but no timescale was forthcoming
just gonna print out this thread and take it along.
I'm after a neil young ticket if anyone has one.
think this is like a few years ago when they would give away free wireless tickets close to the time, they just need to pack in as many as possible so people buy stuff inside and it looks good on tv, this time they've done it through friends of family of staff of a company involved but really they don't care they just want to get people in
Very strange, 10 mins earlier AXS had said it was unlikely, called back and said AEG had confirmed they would honour the tickets.
"Very strange, 10 mins earlier AXS had said it was unlikely, called back and said AEG had confirmed they would honour the tickets."
Very strange, 10 mins earlier AXL had said it was unlikely, called back and said SLASH had confirmed GNR are shit.
Very strange, 10 mins earlier AXS had said it was unlikely, called back and said AEG had confirmed they would honour le tournoi.
what have the European Space Agency got to do with any of this?!
I meant the Environmental Services Association
BIG NEWS: Just had it confirmed that the £2.50 tickets are all legit! They will honour the tickets! #BSTHydePark
this is literally the most excited I've ever been about something not being confirmed
Been wanting to see arcade fire for ages but can't afford the price right now and missed this by an hour as only just got to lunch at work. If anyone has a spare I could buy off them or meet them there and give the money?
I'm likely to have at least 1 spare if the tickets are honoured
AEG Live have just told me that they will be releasing a press release in an hour to confirm the tickets will be honoured
look like pricks eh
an exciting Friday with several internet meltdowns. Worth £2.50 of anyone's money
Don't even care one way or the other any more.
I am going to get ROARINGLY drunk
It happens! Gotta have faith, like George.
GO! GO! GO!
check out the Tom Jones line-up!
Boyzone, Little Mix, 10cc, The Bootleg Beatles
papa alcxxk's not going to know what hit him
Fuck those guys.
were you expecting any?
I'd be ALL OVER that shit too.
clearly a stunt (for which im grateful): tom jones £2.50 tickets still available despite them claiming it was a mistake that they're graciously honouring. MAKES-A-NO-A-SENSE
it *is* unusual
not arsed about them these days but if its a nice evening it can't hurt?
drinking warm cans of Red Stripe until 5 minutes before they're on rather than endure the bellends and shit bands before (though Wild Beasts might be worth it).
Though given their place on the bill they might be on when I'm still at work
should it turn out to be legit?
Been hearing that the curfew at Hyde Park is early so Arcade Fire might be on at 9ish? I'm just guessing here.
At Primavera they were scheduled to play 1 hr 45 mins and were on stage slightly longer than that.
The Hyde Park shows have a very strict 10:30 PM curfew.
Proper haircut, kick up the arse etc
That's cool though.
As opposed to the confirmation email?
I won't be convinced of this until they come through...
He has no other news that what he has tweeted
"AEG Live has yet to directly confirm the news, but we will update the story with further news as it arrives."
...in a mere two articles. The IB Times seriously overestimate how much energy I have on a hungover Friday afternoon.
Doesn't seem to like it if you try to get 4
I bought one then another one because it wouldn't let me get two at once
cheers id almost given up
cos it's near my dad's birthday and he'd shit the bed at that line up. will keep trying, but if anyone has any spares, HIHIHIHIHI
Despite their still being no word from AEG Live.
So, staff at the Independent have clearly bought are stack of them and are putting on the pressure. Nicely played.
"Sold through the main BST site, thousands of music fans took a punt on the tickets, knowing that if they did turn out to have been added in error and were rescinded they only stood to lose small change."
PLLLLLEEEASE let us keep the tickets...
saying the staff tickets is now soldout. I really really hope these are kept as valid
They're the next HuffPo.
I might resign from DiS now.
Ruddy fantastic :D
Stuck it right to the man!
why didn't i see this thread earlier.
but it depends cos I'm going to ask people if they want them over the weekend. I'll be on touch on monday if no.
the mouth (tongues optional) if this is the case.
but if no-one wants them over le weekend i'll let you know.
still waiting for my tickets before giving my dad the ok to get his train tickets for tom jones
Although my tickets haven't actually come through yet...
fuck sake. got to buy train tickets to london now.
thanks A LOT niki
a swaps thread for this, assuming everyone just bought a busload, aye?
gutted more were released
can't believe I missed on this! :(
Thanks for being part of Two Pounds Fifty Ticket Day everyone.
Amazing stuff, thanks again!
got my hair ticket you bunch of hairy dickdicks
anyone's not arrived? mine haven't
and have some haven't. They came at 4:33 for Arcade Fire. Still waiting on my 2 Neil Young tickets. So guessing they're just going through it all.
anyone's ticket specify that they're actually for more than one person?
All separately. Thanks to whoever posted the link on here.
If anyone wants to swap my Arcade Fire for a Neil young then get in touch.
seems a bit passive aggressive, doesn't it? Still - tickets!
Went on Friday for Sabbath first time I’ve seen them fucking hell they were great, hit after hit, with a great crowd singing their hearts out.
Faith No More were excellent as always, but because Bo Ningen started when FNM finished it took me ages to get from one side of the site to the other so missed them…which is a pisser. Watched Gallows who were after but it’s just not the same with the new singer.
Great day out.
Were fucking great weren't they?!
Even Ozzy. Superb.
Faith No More were brilliant too, dropping 2 new tunes into the encore as well.
Soundgarden blew me right away though. I thought I'd like them the least but they ended up being the highlight of the whole two days I went (Thu & Fri). Amazing rendition of Superunknown.
The site layout left a lot to be desired though with all the plebs having to funnel down the left hand side of the field to get near the front.
and had the most harried and stressful jaunt all the way from Osterley to Hyde Park to try and catch Faith No More. I managed to get at least 40 mins of the set, which I was so glad about. They were utterly beguiling and I've basically been listening solely to their albums for the whole weekend. I too got caught out with trying to get over in time for Bo Ningen; by the time I bought a sandwich and made my way over the tent was full with a huge queue to get in. Gave up and had a sit down instead. I liked Soundgarden, although I'm not a huge fan so it was more passive enjoyment, but Sabbath were so very, very good.
I'm not usually one for the big outdoor show, 'cause I'm tedious and easily irritated, but Friday was about as good as it gets, the combination of absurdly cheap tickets, mostly nice weather and a couple of mates coming with at the last minute to yell along with old metal songs I used to listen to with my Dad as a 10 year old was wonderful. When they played Black Sabbath I was about as happy as can be.
it takes to get from Hyde Park to Euston Station, and what's the best way of getting there - tube or walk? My last train is 12.15. Will I definitely make it ok? Is the 10.15 curfew strictly enforced? How long does it take to get out of the park?
It took us about an hour to get from Hyde Park to the Victoria line (same line you'll be aiming for), and head south to Brixton, so I reckon you should be okay if you're heading north to Euston. Make sure you're near an exit for the end though, it does take a while for folks to get out, queues out aren't horrendously slow though.
Just do that instead.
a 10.30 curfew, normally strictly enforced. You'll definitely make it for 12.15.
The exit funnels you South (at least the one I took) so probably easiest to take the tube; walk to Green Park then Victoria direct to Euston - probably 15-20 mins walk depending how busy it is then about 5 mins on the tube. We got out straight away from the park for Black Sabbath but just before the encore.
Soundgarden were really good, didn't know they were just going to play super unknown so that was a nice surprise. Their songs don't benefit from Chris Cornell explaining the meanings though.
the whole faith no more set and the incredible set from sabbath were the highlights of thu/fri for me. glad i didn't bother with saturday. was going just out of curiosity but sounds like it was a right bowl of cocks organisation-wise (not that it was very well organised thu/fri - hate that massive vip section).
Was a cracking couple of days.
Can see how the Libertines debacle happened, lots of people ended up getting lost/stuck, so round the front by the stage was surprisingly quiet I found.
Seems like an unnecessery expense for not much gain, that VIP section. Looked pretty empty both days as well.
couldn't go so my mate offered me £30 for them. £25 profit! which got me out of being forced to endure Jake Bugg/ a financial hole I'd made myself by forgetting what happens when you don't book train tickets in advanced
If not two...anyone?! x
Motorhead: could have done without the drum solo. Still: ace of spades
Faith no more: Exceptional. Played pretty much everything I hoped they would.
Soundgarden: Superunknown in full! My favourite album of all time! Ben Shepherd prowling the stage! Cameron on drums! McCready guest guitar! Cornell's voice being ok! Pretty much perfect.
Black Sabbath: musically fantastic, but ozzy's out of tune vocals and the lack of bill ward (as good as the new drummer was) put me off. Left after four songs to watch the footy.
Only complaint: bit expensive. £1.50 would have been more appropriate I think.
too many clutch t-shirts.
so much boring blues rock in that set
God bless ITV+1.
Actually, I think I lasted until the fifth song of Sabbath. The new drummer was really rather good, though.
to get booze/soft drink alternatives into the venue. Not that i'm complaining.
I usually go for the front pocket of a bag, which they rarely look in but may squish to see.
one stopped to search him, he said 'ah i've got a bottle of coke, i'll throw it away'. Went away, came back to a different stall five minutes later and they waved him through.
I'd say either fold your jacket up or if you have deep pockets use the back ones. They didn't seem to check anybody who didn't have a bag/suspiciously big coat.
(seriously though my mate had a ski jacket with things hidden around it. Looked like this http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l4ynkuRSYq1qc5pd9o1_500.png )
bag a very cursory search, no pat down or anything. You could easily get a hipflask or a 500ml bottle of something in.
Reading lots about this VIP malarkey. Any recommendations of where to stand, how to get close, etc? Any advice would be appreciated!
and then head in west and you'll be at the front
I'm thinking of taking the kids on Saturday. They're 6 and 9. Do you get many kids at these things and if so, do they have fun? My kids have never been to a gig. Being only 4ft tall would be a problem. My lad is a fan of The National. Not sure they'd stay up for Neil Young though.
which might keep them entertained, big site too so you can just hang at the back and watch the screens
My friends took their's who are 7 and 9 along for sabbath and they both loved it - had plenty of metallers telling them that they rocked.
i have a spare Neil young ticket - pm me if you want it - face value (£2.50)
along with everyone else I expect. ta!
a singular neil young ticket. please let me know if you have one.
looking for two?!
especially as msmonipenni and I walked through the gates and won tickets for the VIP area which meant we could go right up the front, have free food and drink all night, nice toilets and stood next to Billie Piper!
Best £2.50 EVER SPENT.
Remember this day? Almost a year ago.
where bounce my cheap blur tickets now!?
with dissers at the coffee house day.
