The first two records in particular
ANOTHER GREEN WORLD
plus the 2 Roxy Music albums, and playing/writing music/production on a bunch of other stuff that don't count as Eno albums but whatever
I'm talking ENO.
your suggestion of 2 was way off in_wainbows, way off
dats 2 ennit?
count as pop albums I would say
although I think discreet music came after another green world, so I guess you might say only 3 pop albums before his ambient stuff but I'm not going to because that's even more needlessly nitpicky than I can be bothered to be, and it's not important anyway
it's definitely really important
But I usually think of Another Green World and Before and After Science as... art.
well la di da
I think taking tiger mountain is better than before and after science, might even be my favourite eno, actually
it's haunting and beautiful and melancholy and fun and psychedelic and really just astonishing
can't work out whether 'back in judy's jungle' or the title-track is the most perfectly sad thing ever written
all of it is tearjerking rly. while being a roistering great art-pop boucealong. insane achievement
whereas ziggy stardust and aladdin sane are more pop, in the same way here come the warm jets and taking tiger mountain are. they're just more guitary.
i didn't know taking tiger mountain was considered really good, i oughta listen to it again.
to be fair though, i haven't really listened to any of those albums properly.
took me a bit to get into Taking Tiger Mountain, but once I did. I also really like the first one though I don't think it's quite as good
I basically just like everything (that I've heard) Eno was slightly involved in until about the mid-80s though
you're not meant to "listen" to his albums, silly!
Still quite like Warm Jets and Taking Tiger Mountain, and massive respect for everything else he's done, but these days his ambient stuff just sounds too cerebral & noodly to me. Lots of people doing it better than he does. And anything past, say, 1990... forget it.
the plateaux of mirror
the fuck is the matter with you?
Or am I missing something?
Listened to that through a few times
Mediocre, zany pop and a few lazy ambient drones don't justify his muso darling status.
I'm sorry. I got all cross.
I'm gonna hurt you
The weird skewed pop ones:
Here Come The Warm Jets
Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy
Before and After Science
The ambient ones:
Music for Airports
The really great one that is a bit pop, a bit ambient:
Another Green World
The brilliant collaborations:
My Life in The Bush of Ghosts (with David Byrne)
The Pearl (with Harold Budd)
Cluster and Eno (with, erm, Cluster)
If you've not listened to any of those records it's your loss
I need that. Cluster one.
I'd also add the one with Fripp....No Pussyfooting
is my most favourite thing he's ever done. This track:
can't say I have
find his singing voice really jarring though. too english and nerdy
a few years ago, would listen to that on repeat. Here Come the Warm Jets is pretty good. Not heard anything else, will check out the second one tomorrow.
