http://thequietus.com/articles/15274-coldplay-ghost-stories-review I don't think he likes it
But I believe every word.
are substitutes for letters. Maybe that's the bit you're missing?
that mr agreeable doesn't understand
bout time someone took coldplay down a peg
Couldn't read past the second paragraph
and completly missed the point.
but the review's pish, sub-juvenile. Still agree with the thrust o' it mind.
This reads like a sixth-former trying to be controversial in the school paper
...and then censoring them all with asterisks. Surely it's either one one (swearing) or the other (non swearing) isn't it.
I've never understood short-sleeve jumpers for the same reason.
Keeping the core warm whilst allowing freedom of movement and expression for the arms when waving them about vigorously is not to be sniffed at.
I have no opinion on Coldplay or this article though.
Got a feeling most of you were too young to remember Mr. Agreeable's column in the Melody Maker http://www.mr-agreeable.net/category/mr-agreeable/
but that was a long time ago, when being abusive and sweary was more of a novelty and required less imagination. Don't think you can really get away with being this witless in 2014.
next week: less than flattering reviews of mumford and sons, keane and paolo nutini.
consider me on tenterhooks.
The idea that anyone over the age of ten could find this amusing is really fucken depressing.
that he wanted to break up with Gwyneth
so that he could call her about reconciling, and then stand by the bus stop when she gets off the bus listening to 'These Days' by Nico and then pretty much relight the relationship's spark for 6074 more years
But this review is f***ing shit.
the self censoring kind of undermines its impact. people that get wound up by cold play are trying too hard.
Sometimes that site knocks it out of the park, but other times like this it shits itself in front of the whole school.
that's 46 f***s in this f***ed-up click bait. How many stars do you reckon he's inadvertently given it? Probably accidentally skewed of enough to be AOTY on metacritic.
Coldplay? C***grey, more like! There’s only one f***ing substance on this earth more colourless and full of f***ing nothing than Ghost Stories and that’s f***ing Gwyneth Paltrow’s urine!
i mean, come on
I'd rather listen to the album than read that review again. It's just embarrassing.
do they censor the swearwords? It just makes it even harder to read.
Back in the good old days of music journalism "fuck" was censored to "f**k". Somehow it makes Mr Agreeable (aka David Stubbs) even funnier.
MR AGREEABLE WAS A LONG-RUNNING COLUMNIST IN MELODY MAKER.
and how poor the joke is, I don't even know what Melody Maker is without Googling.
Of course, this just makes me one of the people that probably shouldn't be reading the Quietus. :D
it offers a strong corrective to the idea that their readership consists of ageing 90s music press nostalgists, given that most people don't appear to have any idea who or what this is
Fire that shitty reviewer already.
in Melody Maker were never that long - a paragraph at most on each 'target'. With this Mr Agreeable styled review though it goes on for pages and hugely outstays it welcome. It therefore doesn't really work either as a review or as a Mr Agreeable pastiche.
Mr Agreeable only works in the context of a short outburst.
I mean, maybe it was just that I was basically a child when Melody Maker was around, but I always thought there was something transgressive about Mr Agreeable's swears, even starred out, you know, it was ironically crude and unjournalistic.
Whereas now you look at any given YouTube video and the comments are swearier and cruder - you can enjoy the review for the trashing of Coldplay and I suppose for the sheer amount of time it goes on for, but there's not that extra frisson of 'I can't believe they dared!'
This, on the other hand, is one of the best reviews of a record I have ever read. Proper music journalism- unpretentious, sincere, thought-through and not bending with the wind.
or is that much obvious and you all just think it's shit anyway?
whole thing is confusing
Stop getting Mr Agreeable wrong
that I quite like the album. I've deleted the Aviici pish and added the extra three tracks on the end, and it fits well together.
i'm not really a fan but they do the odd decent tune and the last single 'Magic' wasn't that bad, if you don't like them don't listen to them, it's pretty easy to ignore them in this day and age just by pass commercial radio stations and you'll be fine.
