New album in July, here's a new song:
asked him all about it and he just gave me the 'get ready to have your mind blown' look. he got me pumped, hyperbole and all. i rarely get excited for releases anymore but I'm all in on this one.
in the hat to review the album. fingers crossed.
might revisit it
still fucking ace. was way better than i expected live too.
this is hype too.
it's one of those albums that benefits strongly from listening to it through from start to finish, I think; rather than something where I necessarily feel like listening to a track or two on their own (though there are some really nice individual tracks on there, of course).
I feel like a lot of the hip-hop albums I like are like that, cause a lot of them are structured in that vaguely collage approach.
Something like that anyway... basically it's a really good album, but some of the really strong moments only show themselves in the context of the album as a whole, so you need to invest the time... I dunno, man.
that's some special production right there
Black Up is immensely good, but so hard to get through a lot of the time. It's such a densely packed record, and it feels relentless at points.
it sounds fucking awesome.
to start with, I thought: yeah, this is just an OK Shabazz Palaces track.
But then, all these sounds start coming in and I'm like... this is a NIIIIICE Shabazz Palaces track.
I'm so excited.
It's all a bit Lil B no.
CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE CAKE
I am excited about that (though it's been delayed before so I am remaining calm)
I ain't listening to the whole thing until I buy it; but it's nice to hear Dawn in Luxor properly now. Shoegazey.
Took a while for me to check this out but I'm here now. I could be erring on thinking its better than Black Up.
Somehow... underrated? It didn't get a bad reception, but no real fanfare compared to Black up either... Meanwhile, it's an AOTY contender for me.
So maybe it'll get more recognition a little further down the line.
Saw them at Sleazy's on Friday night. What a great, great show it was. Probably the best thing I've seen this year.
I love these guys!
