They haven't even sent promos out yet.
guessing its been nabbed at the pressing plant or summink
I need to hear this record.
I found it.
but i got a promo for this last week
But 2 months early though..eek..may aswell release it early now.
that's a shitter for them. I'll wait cheers.
it made me think this is how it used to happen, sometimes even longer.
leaked before they'd been officially announced.
Y'all remember when Bradford Cox accidentally leaked Weird Era Cont. AND the unmastered Logos, like, 14 before it came out, and before it was even announced?
that must have been pretty early, went on holiday for two or three weeks then when I came back I don't think it had come out yet. Funnily enough, I have a massive bond with that album now cos of that holiday, I think of walking along the coast line at Sennen cove everytime I hear it.
why the fuck do i post this wank
Still a wank I know, but a deep and intense wank.
mine was Black Market Music by Placebo. I remember waiting for them to start at Reading 2000 and this guy started telling me about how he'd downloaded a leak and Brian Molko rapped on it :')
that's another weird thing you don't get anymore, unmastered versions of albums leaking.
i think that happened with AC's strawberry jam too.
which is ANOTHER thing you don't see anymore that used to happen
i remember there used to be loads of leaks with missing tracks
Before that, I didn't even know leaks were a thing that happened.
Quite freeform in structure, so that may divide opinion, but I think it flows nicely because of that.
I remember when Grizzly Bear's Veckatimest leaked early, thought it would mess up sales but it did fairly well in the end iirc
I remember that! TheVeckatimest leak was really low quality I think. Bought that stupid album twice in the end.
good album tho
Hove, Old Market: Wed 22nd Oct
still probably going to go to this though
I'm going to reserve judgement, but I've found it a bit samey so far. it should be a grower though. I didn't like Hospice so much at first.
Still expect it to be divisive, but every song has something worth returning to. Personal favourites so far are Director, Revisited and Surrender (Palace is also still brilliant). The percussion is really good throughout.
director, revisted and intruders favourites so far
Found Palace a bit soppy as a single, but love it on the album.
Intruders is something else.
Going to need a couple of extra bodies I would assume. Previous touring guitarist is working on Broadway now, I believe.
than Burst Apart.
I like the stuff which is more freeform and impressionistic. The stuff which was very song-y off Burst Apart like Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out was a bit cheesy, not to my taste.
I don't think you could find any of it cheesy: even the song-y songs like Intruders and Parade would fit on Undersea. There's a structure there, but its submerged. I'm obsessed with it already.
Predictably, people on here will try to pretend Burst Apart isn't comfortably the best thing they've done, but y'know, standard. The songs on that record were simply of a much better quality than these, though. Have listened quite a few times, finding it pretty boring and MOR.
How many people don't seem to like it. I think the first half of the album is as good as anything they've done. Haven't got into the second half so much, yet.
Nay-sayers, did you like or dislike Undersea EP?
not finding this substantial at all. like there's a lot of stuff missing.
That said with repeated listens I wouldn't entirely rule it out. It'll be in my top three this year I expect.
it's very different in form and in structure to Burst Apart, so the comparisons are a bit weird. Undersea is a much more appropriate comparison. I guess it depends if you prefer the more conventional song-writing in Burst Apart to the more freeform structure of Familiars. I reckon it's gorgeous. I love some of the outros, I can't remember which song it is but about midway through the album at the end of a track there's a neat little keyboard synth outro, but I wish they expanded on it, really wanted more variety in that way. At the moment it's hard distinguishing one track from another. The last track isn't as strong as their earlier album closers either, which is disappointing, because they tend to have backloaded albums. At the moment I'm more inclined to listen to the middle tracks from Hotel onwards. It's strange having an album with the best material in the middle as opposed to strong openers and closers. It is an album that demands repeated listens though, and I think it's rewarding in that respect. Stick with it.
is at the end of Revisited, if i'm not mistaken. and yeah, that is a cool part.
Unsurprisingly in my top three of this year.
You've all heard it by now, yeah ?
it's more of a narrative than Burst Apart, in that sense it's closer to Hospice. Infact it fits quite nicely in somewhere between the two (with considerable added brass).
I didn't want to over play it but find, when I return to it, I like it that little bit more each time. "Doppelganger" is a good example, didn't like it at first but found it's a definite grower. It's also the track that would fit most nicely on Undersea.
album thus far. A bit surprised at the low DiS score.
really enjoying this, some gorgeous, sprawling tracks
feels like it will grow & grow into something truly delicious too
"After listening to Familiars for two weeks straight, I spent a week away from it to see how its appeal held up after emotional investments faded. The ability to become lost in Familiars had only grown in that time, something which bodes well for both its running as one of 2014’s strongest releases and my argument that the album rewards patient listening. However, it also means that a silly catchall such as “achingly beautiful”, or even saying the Antlers’ music is deliberate and sad, threatens to box in compositions that are far more versatile than those terms suggest."
really does bed in nicely
I'm going to pay a DJ to play the whole album at my 40th birthday bash and force everyone to dance to every track, even though its nearly impossible to do so.
