I've been listening to New Album quite a bit recently and was wondering what happened to them, so it's good to hear they've got a new album lined up. Looking forward to it!
a great split 12" with Joe Volk:
and a 3 CD set of old material in the interim. Their release schedule is pretty daunting, especially with how low-key a lot of the stuff is. As far as I know you can only get Praparat from their Japanese webstore and I bought the EP from the merch stall on the tour with Joe Volk.
Loving the new track too. Punky. Definite change of pace to the groove of Heavy Rocks II.
No idea how I missed out on those releases, they certainly kept those quiet! Agreed about the release schedule, they also always seem to be touring a lot as well. One of the hardest working bands out there today for sure.
tough ti was a bit amazing that they managed to release 3 albums simultaneously and have maybe an EP of note between them. Praparat was rather good, though.
One of the worst things I've ever deliberately spent money on.
but I haven't heard anything really great from them since Pink
I thought Rainbow and Praparat were both really good. I also thought the US version of Smile was better than it was given credit for.
but yeah, they've been somewhat hit or miss since Pink.
haven't listened to boris in ages. sort of forgot about them.
Spoon is one of their best songs, and Party Boy is really good, even though the title reminds me of Jackass.
enjoyed quite a lot of their post Pink output – Praparat in particular – but I'm still waiting for another big, one or two track drone album. That or a feedbacker live performance. I know they've been doing some Flood performances in Tokyo recently.
I'm not really feeling either of the new tracks. Maybe it'll work better as an album.
haven't listened to it fully, but the skimming I gave it made it sound much closer to Shoegaze than normal with Quicksilver being not at all indicative of the album's style.
I liked this more than I thought I would. Boris (mostly) makes the Shoegaze album they always threatened to and it works better than anything off of New Album. Not too keen on Quicksilver as it doesn't really fit with thwe rest of the album; though I wish its coda was longer.
Not sure what the fans of Boris' heavier side will think of it. It's not really the limp-wristed and twee Shoegaze that seems to be in fashion, but not quite Blackgaze either.
so I'm really enjoying Noise. I agree that Quicksilver is a bit out of place with the rest of the tracks, but it's a solid tune so it doesn't really bother me.
Interviews done with translator are so the best (ish)
