Snippet from the new album? So I'm officially going to get excited for this as they ended the video with the word "Soon"
"Familiars' is set to be released on June 16th
Also reminds me that I never got around to listening to their pre Burst Apart work, really must rectify that.
it really reminded me of the port st willow album, which is funny as they are pretty much an antlers rip-off themselves.
the vocal melody really reminds me of something too..
At least as much as you would expect from Antlers anyway. Is that what you mean by not much of a "song", because I don't agree.
Not meant of a criticism of the track, which I like, but it's a definite Hospice-Burst Apart hybrid.
the mix of his voice, the brass and all that other gorgeous shit does something to me.
Holy moley. Almost got a midwest-emo feel to it with the brass. Really really great.
it's a bit too polished for my tastes?
But the brass. Oh my word the brass.
The new track is absolutely gorgeous!!!
like something out of a Disney movie. Bit distracting. But otherwise, that's the Antlers I know and love. Song isn't an Endless Ladder or Putting the Dog to Sleep or Two, and hopefully the new album will have a song or two on that level, but it's good enough.
^Their 3 best songs.
I really, really hope this is an extension on the sound they explored on Undersea. That's my favourite thing I've heard of their's (need to give Hospice and Burst Apart more listens though, to be honest)
Very different, but quite remarkable nonetheless. Hard to evaluate an EP against an album, but it is stronger track-for-track, I think.
any of the track on either album. I really want to like it, but I just don't feel much from it. beautiful coloured piece of vinyl, mind.
But Hospice is an unfuckwithable masterpiece. So there's that.
Had a proper Antlers binge this weekend after they posted the initial tease. This new track sits wonderfully as a hybrid to the two most recent LPs and Undersea.
Just sounds like Burst Apart stuff but with a Hospice standard lyric. Which is fine by me.
His singing is definitely mixed oddly for the first 30 seconds too.
Yeah, this is where I was expecting them to go after Undersea. And I am enjoying it greatly.
I believe this is what music journalists would describe as 'bruising'
the twinkly synth at the start is the same sequence as the intro to Hospice isn't it? Just a lot calmer, and a bit quicker. In fact the whole song sounds (not really listening to the lyrics much yet) like something off Hospice but calmer...
Liking this a lot so far. I always forget how much I love Pete Silberman's voice.
