it's as good as any other album that's been made.
Second half not so much. Overall probably not as good as any Pixies album. Thalassocracy is incredible though, one of the best songs of the 90s.
not necessarily better than surfer rosa or come on pilgrim or doolittle, but better than trompe and bossanova and anything the breeders ever did. went through a period of being completely obsessed with Abstract Plain and Headache after hearing them on The Chris Morris Music Shows
Can only put it down to Pixies nostalgia (even though they'd been split up a few years before I discovered them).
I don't think even his best stuff is quite as good as the best Pixies or Breeders, but I literally like every single solo thing of his I've heard. Even the relatively recent one which is mainly about sex acts he's planning on performing on his wife - which should, by any reasonable measure, be completely unlistenable.
I agree, yeah. I maybe even prefer it to Pixies or Breeders stuff.
don't think people give him enough credit for how big it is and how consistent it is. second disc has superabound, ole mulholland, space is gonna do me good, pure denizen of the citizens band, pie in the sky. those are fucken good songs.
just realised that brakes ripped their entire band off of the opening verse of pure denizen.
not enough organ in indie rock.
it is good tho. looks like divine on the cover.
It came out straight after the Pixies stuff and sounds more like Trompe, my favourite Pixies album. Plus it has Hang on to Your Ego.
But yeah, I don't think he's got any better after Teenager and it's a cracking record.
one of my favourite records of all time. Scrappy, ambitious, weird and full of should-have-been hits. Sounds like Frank having a ball. Love it.
First couple of FB albums have a bit too much of a pop sheen for me though. I'm big on Pistolero and Dog In The Sand. Some freaken TUNES on those two.
