Setup is him along with Greg Fox, Shahzad Ismaily and Thor Harris. Sounds promising.
it does something to my head
It's a bit busy and cluttered sounding, and a bit ravey. I preferred it when he sounded so minimal and stripped on By The Throat, which in way made his sound even more overwhelming. This is good, but it's not what I really love him for.
Anyone going to the London gig on Saturday?
early finish though no?
what is his live setup like?
Never seen him live, but according to the Quietus interview below it'll be him with Greg Fox & Shahzad Ismaily...
love venter though.
Won't be able to listen to By The Throat for a bit...
don;'t think I can take this seriously
bit busy maybe, I wasn't blown away by it on first listen
But Venter is just such a towering achievement that it dims the impact of a lot of the other tracks.
Nolan is still amazing, and the double punch of Secant and Diphenyl Oxalate is just staggeringly epic.
But enjoying more with each listen
have listened to his other stuff? Very curious when writing this up because it is a big departure from his previous work (as is to a lesser degree the album itself)
not blown away by this
might check by the throat or whatever it's called, that's meant to be good isn't it?
I'm not really sold on the album as a whole, but truth be told, I don't get the hyper behind Venter; I thought almost all the other tracks were better.
I have a feeling this album is going to be this year's Sunbather....
then I had a few cans and put Blink 182 on. I'll give it a go tomorrow when I'm doing serious shit because I get the impression it's gonna be one of those precious listens but amazing all the same.
just finally sat down and read his Wire interview. Turns out he was deliberately trying to be more ravey after having an epiphany at a Richie Hawtin concert. Ah well..
i put this on in a dark room with a good pair of headphones and lost connection with reality
it's a decent album to do a spin class to.
