The War on Drugs
The Hold Steady
Ekoplekz - Unfidelity
On Planet Mu, because its proper good. Has all the live four track analogue noisy jam stuff down really well but it has an odd catchy slightly more melodic Mu-like thing going for it.
DJ Q - Ineffable
On Local Action, because he's a massive don and this should be the garage pop crossover thing that Disclosure could have been if they wern't as tepid. Just a load of fun.
Out on Keysound in March too, nearly forgot that one. Big bassy spaced out UK soundsystem beasts.
Have had a sneaky preview listen to this and it's extraordinary. More hip hop (in a Frank Ocean kinda way) than you'd expect in places.
The Trust album is good too.
Namely Real Estate, Future Islands and The War on Drugs. All are excellent, especially the latter which might be the best record I've heard so far this year.
Really hyped for Freddie Gibbs/Madlib team-up, the tracks already released are great, Freddie's always really solid.
Surprisingly excited to hear the Pharrell record, as well as The Men/Metronomy already mentioned above. Liars should be good too, and Perfect Pussy.
Also I think this might be the month the PUP record finally gets a UK release, might have to wait until April. Really good though.
Shout-out to the Adrian Lau and Cyhi the Prynce mixtapes that got released today.
Where do I start on the back catalogue ?
I liked it, but it definitely needed to be a bit shorter.
I am the Avalanche
Gibbs & Madlib
*already heard, both well good
Can't really remember what's coming out any time soon to be honest.
The War on Drugs
so shall be looking forward to those ta.
but there's been scarily little i've cared about so far this year, or that's even on the horizon. seems a really slow year so far.
gonna check out that neneh cherry record tho
I was looking forward to The Men album but I've liked 1/3 of the songs I've heard so far. The Hold Steady songs previewed so far haven't filled me full of hope either. March could well be a disappointing month for me.
On the other hand Madgibbs should be fun.
Babe - Volery Flighty
Stanley Brinks & The Wave Pictures (although this dropped through my door today!)
Ok, maybe not as many as I thought, but i'm pretty excited about them
had no idea there was a new carla bozulich record
So much so that I've imported it from a Japanese site, which is always an expensive thing to do. Although I suppose I won't actually get the album through the letterbox until April.
Or, and Black Submarines - New Shores.
That was supposed to say Oh, not or.
March is also looking pretty good with albums from:
Jimi Goodwin and Metronomy, whatever else turns up that's good.
I wrote and recorded in the month of February and put out on 1st March. This explains the quality of some of it, but some of it I am quite proud of. If you'd give it a listen that'd be lovely
...given no-one else has mentioned them. Appetite whetted by a 9/10 review in Uncut.
Also looking forward to the Polar Bear release having heard a couple of tracks from it.
Elbow and The Hold Steady; who have quite a bit in common for me. Both are bands that I first got into on their third album and both are bands whose 5th albums didn't really click with me for some reason (neither album was objectively bad, I just didn't find myself returning to them).
Hopefully I'll have more time for these new releases.
Also looking forward to the Jimi Goodwin solo album.
Seeing Johnny Foreigner mentioned here reminds me that I've been meaning to give them a proper listen for a while as they seem like my sort of thing.
