New album announced.
'I see you' premieres tonight on radio 1.
Intrigued to see where they go next.
it's not bad, but I think a proper studio recording would change my mind.
But haven't really returned to them that much, even Primary Colours. I have a funny feeling that the new one is going to be a bit of a step backwards, hope to be proved wrong!
but when I DO return do them, they really deliver.
That new track is really something
Takes a while to hit its stride though...
Bit of Simple Minds too.
Liking the synths.
like a better version of Echo's self-titled album.
new track is good. I don't think it's that different from their last album, so those expecting another new direction may be disappointed, though maybe there's more on the album.
that 2014'd struggle to deliver.
Way to prove me wrong, year.
I feel love I feel love I feel love I feel loooooooooove
that was really really good
is going to turn some heads. A beaut.
But I have really liked the first tracks they put out from their previous albums, then was a bit underwhelmed by the full records. Will have to wait and see with this one as well.
So love the sounds and progression of this though. Great stuff.
If the rest of the album is as good as this, I can't wait.
...the bunnymens 'bring on the dancing horses', the song itself isn't quite strong enough (weak chorus) and the backing track is basically 'actung baby/pop' era U2. Another criticism is that, as on 'Skying', the rhythm section are too lumpen to pull this type of music off well.
very very nice
with the exception of the intro, it sounds even more 80s than I See You.
I See You was good but sounded like an exact continuation of Skying, but this does feel quite distinct. Really looking forward to this album now.
was a huge fan of the first two albums, well up for this.
And absolutely no reason why it needs to last over 7 minutes.
the youtube goes to a 5.03
Or you mean I See You? The end is good though, worth buildign up to and sitting on for a couple of minutes.
7 minutes is a pretty normal track time for me though, so what do I know. 10 minutes plus or bust.
It could stop at 4 minutes and be a half decent song, rather than repeat that not-very-interesting synth line with a slight drum change in the middle. There seems to be some association with long tracks = good tracks, and bands trying to be "epic" or whatever. It was the same with Sea Within A Sea.
Sea Within A Sea was fucking amazing, possibly the only fucking amazing song The Horrors have ever done or ever will do (although I do like New Ice Age and I Only Think Of You as well)
but still too long.
also New Ice Age has that "Tick, tick, tick, tick, dead!" line which is one of the most terrible thing ever. I like Primary Colours, but I still think the best description of the album is that it's the making of a mediocre band trying to show they at least have good taste in music.
Otherwise I can agree that I See You doesn't really need to be 7 minutes long, but I don't really think it's overly long either.
they're an average band with occasional inspired flair with an excellent record collection. That's pretty much how they'll go down in the history books.
but it sounds nice enough. If these are the lead tracks, I suspect I will be underwhelmed by the full album. I prefer I See You to this one, had more churn und sturm. this one is just a bit paisley wallpapery.
or does this new one sound like Howard Jones?
some sites indicate it's a webrip, but the specs look good.
Sounds a lot like Skying, but with more synths and less good tunes. Sound palette is a bit too samey throughout. Back half is better though. 'I See You' could easily be the best track.
it's good so far, though maybe not as immediately likable as Skying. In And Out of Sight is the definite highlight so far.
doesn't really work well, no? I want to like it, but only parts of it are at all good.
if only they actually had lyrics.
and I've certainly enjoyed their albums, but the lyrics thing does get to me. He really has nothing to say, that kid. They're just, sort of, there...
but nothing much worse than most, I don't think.
outside of "tick tick tick DEAD!" of course.
is the best thing they've ever done.
like they were expecting another change up after Skying, but got more of a consolidation of that album's sound instead, so now the critics are all "oh, but they combine these influences into something unique!" It sounds like they're embarrassed to admit that they're enjoying something derivative. I like the Horrors and Luminous, but they've never been anything original; even the "huge leap" of Primary Colours was a genre exercise of sorts: do you like Shoegaze? "Three Decades" for you! Krautrock? "Sea Within a Sea!", etc.
also the Japanese bonus tracks for the album aren't really anything to write home about.
a very conceited bunch of individuals
great headphone listen
