Are they good live?
They're not going to play over here are they?
I didn't even check. Pledged now. We're up to ten.
though it was a pipe dream back then. Shit got real.
How many pledgers do they need? For eg cLOUDDEAD's one is "In Progress" with only 81 pledged. Best of luck with that one.
They were supporting the Decemberists at Night and Day in Manchester. It was great, if brief. I think they fell apart pretty soon after - no sign of it that night though.
That album's still well up there for me, ten years on. A new record would be amazing.
Can't really imagine them hot-footing it over the pond, mind.
Some new material would be nice, even if 2014 was a wee bit ropey.
it was the first album of theirs that did nothing for me.
Would love it if Nick and Alden started writing together again
even if they hated each other. ESPECIALLY if they hated each other. And the logic about the 2014 thing is just perfect.
if they still hated each other
needs more time, nothing on it 'sticks' yet. Had it a couple of months.
but only listened like 3 times on shit headphones when I'm miserable at work.
think this reunion seems different from the rest, they never really had there time and most people got into them after they split, ive seen plenty of old bands reform, seen a few that I had already seen during their first run, but this is one of the few bands that were of my era that I just missed out on. Always wanted to go to canada, this would be a good reason.
having said that pretty much every band i've seen reform have lost something because of it, MBV and godspeed used to seem magical to me, now I kind of wish they hadn't reformed at all, wonder how this will go
YYYs were playing two nights at Brixton (I think). One night the support was Blood Brothers and The Unicorns, the other The Duke Spirit and the fucking Bravery. Guess which I went to? Yeah, the shit one.
I'd be happy with a reissue. Would like to hear actual studio recordings of Ruff Gem, Haunted House and Abominable Snowman.
near misses like that are so annoying. remember when the islands abominable snow and flesh demos came out? had some really intricate guitar playing and super catchy, had high hopes for islands based on that, the way their promise faded with each album has been a real shame
Vapours > Return to the Sea > A Sleep & a Forgetting > Arm's Way > Ski Mask
Mister Heavenly can it in there just to the left of Arm's Way
yeah, I dunno, its not so much that I think they have got progressively worse, its just when the unicorns split I had high hopes islands would just take their mantel and with each album that hope diminished, all solid 7/10 albums, its just theyre not the unicorns (penner let this side down too with his few efforts)
Update: Thorburn tells SPIN, "Don't get your hopes up. We are talking right now but that's as far as it's gotten. We've talked about this kind of thing many times over the years and while it's true that this is the furthest along it's gotten, conceptually, it's still just talk."
I reckon he is just making alden work for it, probably still bitter he scuppered thier chance for the big time
I flipped out less when Neutral Milk Hotel announced a tour.
I flipped the fuck out. If this reunion happens, my life will feel complete. That's not even an exaggeration. And it might help me give up the grudge that I have against Islands for not being The Unicorns.
Somebody make it happen!!!
