They're back! Try to contain your enthusiasm:
This is really, really shit. Sub early 90s boyband material.
not listened yet but lets not pretend their popularity is that dead in the water
wish you could reset the timer from when you turn it off Private. or some better way of doing it.
Sounds proper 90's pop that does. Don't know if I really like it....yet. I don't have a nostalgia pang to twang, so that sound isn't really an automatic <3 from me. But that hook is a whopper. Great little pause before it hits.
It seems that no matter what they put out after their first album, they took so long making it that most of their fanbase moved on pretty quickly.
not bad, not good, just generic as fuck.
i mean, it is competent, and enough to probably get them on T4 on the Beach again, but it lacks any dynamism. Still, i am excited for the 1990s rebirth - warehouse raves plz.
i got to about the 4th line and felt dirty
Remember when everyone thought they were good and they won the Mercury and all that?
People were retarded back then.
at least the first album had toons and the two videos of them half naked were hot.
...that guy comb his hair yet?
Wish they made more troll music though.
Like a half-hearted attempt at jumping on the Daft Punk disco revival bandwagon.
Can't believe just how awful this is. What were they thinking?!
Loads of things DiS people like Cut Copy, Pheonix, Metronomy, Daft Punk, M83, things on Italians Do It Better, DFA, some Foals, that new Liars track but a little more snappy to my ears. Are they only getting hate because they're Klaxons? Fair enough there.
Sounds super dodgy to me. If you compare it, say, to How Deep is Your Love by The Rapture the songwriting/production seems super cheesy and amateur (*and that's a comparison to a song that admittedly steals the hook from the Thong Song).
It's the proper lame boyband singing that really does it though. And for what it's worth, that latest Cut Copy album sounded almost (but not quite...) as lame from what I heard.
Like the last Rapture album it seems to have been criminally ignored.
I mean its not a stretch at all to all of those things and this for me. To my ears they sound as dodgy as each other bar the odd exception. Its not far off Hot Chip either. If it was a double blind test and no one knew it was Klaxons it'd prob of made DiS top ten a few years ago when seancore/shoerave was all over the place.
But I think that it's probably comes down to the fact that you're not really into that kind of thing, which is fine, but also means you're not interested in differentiating between those artists. In the extreme, play someone with predisposed indifference two drone tracks, and see if they could give a shit which is 'better'.
To lump in a lot of what DFA/Italians do it Better have produced in with this is definitely harsh, M83 and Liars have taken various more interesting directions in their music (even though that new Liars is tripe), and Cut Copy wrote some genuinely great pop tunes.
Not sure why I'm defending a kind of music I'm not massively in to. All I'm really trying to say is that this song is wank.
but it never moved on much so the new stuff doesn't realy interest me anymore. Was just wondering why this was getting crapped on when it sounds so much like those people.
except without anything that makes any of the above bands remotely interesting. It sounds like a group of amateurs trying to ape the sound of bands you just suggested
This sounds like professionals apeing those sounds, its a bit shiny and less fey than a lot of that stuff, sounds confident even if thats missplaced haha. But defo professional in it for the cash vibes coming thru with this one, even if thats missplaced too, can you make cash doing fey indie synth disco boy band covers in this day and age?
who are #4 in the UK charts right now so maybe it'll be a hit who knows.
If it was literally produced by Gorgon City then it's a Gorgon City track with the bloke from Klaxons singing over it. They're not solo artists incapable of producing, they're a band. No different to having 'Sub Focus feat. Kele' rather than 'Bloc Party (prod. by Sub Focus)'.
or Bloc Party getting produced by that shit indie electro guy Epworth, I think Jacknife Lee did some of theres too tbh and weezer, editors and one direction or that boring Dave fella that makes TV on the Radio, all bands ever etc sound so souless and boring. There just studio guys as well as dance producers.
Gorgon City are just a shit Disclosure though (I know, 'lol', seriously though), I can't imagine they have studio knowledge that outstrips Klaxons if anyone, I assumed in this case it meant 'produced by' in the same way Shlohmo just produced the new Banks track, i.e. made the music. Dunno.
Actually who even cares.
Gorgon City are indeed a shit Disclosure. One of them use to make, prob still does make other stuff though. He's called Foamo made liek bassline/electro stuff at some point. I dunno I think they've been around and make all sorts of stuff, prob have a load of studio know how, who knows. They could be the new Jacknife Lee! Imagain that.
very flat. It' s not maybe me amateurish but definitely nothing interesting happening. It's not subtle and groovy like Cut Copy for example. Klaaaaxooons, I liked you in 2005. Sniff.
So what the people are saying is that the line between shite and really good shoerave in this case is so fine that you really need to be into the subtlties of Cut Copy's back catalogue to get it. Fair enough. At least I'm in the ball park.
was spot on. They caught the zeitgeist and songs were edgy in a fun way. There was a spark, now well and truly extinguished.
It prob doesn't stand up anymore but not everything has too and it was a laugh at the time.
sounds like a very weak version of Fenech-Soler
I've always hated Klaxons, going so far as to swear at them when they were on the telly for winning the Mercury and then going online to buy two of the albums that didn't win in some kind of retail protest (Maps and Bat For Lashes if you GAF) i'm delighted this is so abysmal.
After this Klaxons track had finished, Soundcloud threw up a Metronomy track in the 'people who played this also played...' list. Presumed it was the next Klaxons track before I checked.
Feels like people are just ragging on it cos they want to distance themselves from what they listened to a few years ago.
*except about that new Liars track, which is the track of 2014 before the year was even a fortnight old.
turned it off though maybe it would've been better than this, who knows.
That's awful. And I've really liked them up to now. Sounds promising for a few seconds, then the vocals start...
the droney noise is pretty good. but yeah, the rest is not good at all.
Xan Valleys EP was the most exciting thing i had heard in a long while, but everything after has let me down.
As for this... well.... i m not certain.
I like how the comments on soundcloud are destroying it!
but essentially a poor man's Londonbeat
big enough Radio 1 push behind it it'll probably do it.
and their bubble burst about 5 years ago
Which is better than anything off the second album did, and fairly impressive for a band like that these days.
it's going to be self titled.
Would have preferred a song called Up and Atom.
of a Klaxons song being devoid of substance.
